feeling burnout??

wanderlust_Sa-chan~ March 10, 2015 3:39 pm

Hey i know this is unrelated but im just curious... how doYOU cope with feeling burnout?

Me? Perhaps I sleep it off or sometimes take the public transport, travel afar and come home next mornin for class/work (or skip it entirely).

Do you do that too?

~~

What's burnout?

Burnout is a state of chronic stress that leads to:

- physical and emotional exhaustion
- cynicism and detachment
- feelings of ineffectiveness and lack of accomplishment

~~

This is for those who needs a stress reliever:

And hilarious manga recommendation please~ ლ(´ڡ`ლ)

Yamada and the Seven witches is a great story
Yankee Kun To Megane Chan is really good but a little slow at first

Well reading manga used to be one my mechanisms to coop with stress. It started last year but then I had a shift of heart and decided to face what stresses me out and what sends me into a burnout state instead of finding a mechanism to coop.
In addition, I work more on preventing burnout from happening then from actually going through it and out of it.
Currently I have my own diet of relaxation (and it revolves mostly around listening to music. My favorite music radio station is "radio classique" http://broadcast.infomaniak.net/radioclassique-high.mp3).
Music is a language in itself and exquisite music gives me the impression that I am communicating with something sublime and extraordinary.
This is one of my favorite pieces:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooQv4JcWqnA )
Other than music, a good and interesting hobby is welcomed (I have more than one), diversifying my reading intake is also on the menu (besides mangas there are so much interesting things to read from romance to thrillers and what comes in between). There are also good plots in genres like seinen and gekiga (I blame myself for discovering the latter only recently because it is the one which appeals to me the most, even more than shoujo/ josei and yaoi, along with seinen).
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gekiga
The most important procedure/ process though is to face the feelings which make one vulnerable, sad, upset, angry, unsatisfied etc. Burnout comes in my opinion from the gloomy feelings we harbor, that is why a good meditation/ relaxation routine is so much needed in our lives, or at least for most of us.

Yeah, that used to be my routine too. I replay some games or read manga or watch something. However, the stress level is over the top and unhealthily so. Aaah, my close friends told me I'm not as 'bubbly' aa i used to, but I have to admit that I'm pretty much jaded right now after so many things happened.

Omg. How could i forget that! I'll read yamada yugi's works. Thanks MOI? (๑•ㅂ•)و✧

Reading your take on coping this really makes me feel better. I feel like we are facing something similar in regards of the stress level. I'll take your advice on that. I thank you so much for that.

I like reading seinen, especially sports genre seinen. It has been a while since I last read one. As embarrassing as this sounds, I have neeeever heard of gekiga! I'd like to try to read that. Where can I read them?

LMAO! For some weird reason I could hear a kind, sweet granny voice saying that to me.

you're as amusing as ever! Thanks MOI? for making me laugh. God bless!

That's fatigue, not burn out. Fatigue can lead to burn out if you keep pushing it, but burn out is when your brain starts shutting down as a result of exhaustion and overwork. It has different symptoms for different people, but resembles PTSD, and there is real and lasting brain damage as a result. You can recover from fatigue. You can't from burn out.

wow I just realized that I wrote cope as coop, sorry (and not so sorry about that because misspellings are funny in their own way. For instance "coop" rhymes with the obnoxious "poop" :p ).

Anyways, well if you feel that we are facing the same situation then we probably are. At this point, it would be honest for me to admit that part of being interested in yaoi was due to the fact that it provided some sort of a mild sexual adrenaline rush which helped distract me from the stress I was suffering from. I told myself it is acceptable to read whatever makes me happy but should't embrace it as a substitute to dealing with the real problem (stress, burnout feeling, hitting a glass ceiling maybe ...). The trick here is profiting from reading as a coping mechanism but to prevent it from becoming an unhealthy addiction, and ending thus with a new problem at hand.

If you haven't heard about gekiga, then you aren't the only one (I discovered its existence three months ago and I was upset because I didn't notice it/ hear of it before. The problem is that it isn't covered as much as the other genres, and stories which belong to this category are disseminated throughout Seinen).
I have my on lists of both but I haven't had time to sort them out ...
I started from building my lists by checking this page on Goodreads:
    http://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/gekiga

Then I performed my own search on mangaupdates by checking their list of seinen (because many gekigas are labeled as such).

This is also a list of the work of the man who is supposed to have coined the term "gekiga" in the first place

    https://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=2430

If you go through the lists of seinen provided on mangaupdates, combined with another search term like romance, drama, tragedy or whatever interests you, I promise that you're going to find some very interesting titles.

Here is one of my picks from one of my favorite authors
    https://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=14591

Finally never underestimate the small things which help you regenerate your vigor, I personally find colorful scarves and rich/ subtle fragrances to be helpful. It is my personal treat (and small joy). If a person doesn't provide himself/ herself with happiness, then who will? hhhhh

OMG! Seriously, how similiar can we get? I can't help but agree on every points you've written especially that last part. I too find colorful scarves and rich/subtle fragrances to be helpful and it is my kind of little happiness.

I will check the links out by the end of the week. This week is especially hectic for me.

Seriously Lilas...You're cool and thank you for making my day. God bless! (⌒▽⌒)

Yes, that's true. It was overdrive-fatigue that led me to this plus some other external stresses. I was especially so much demotivated for more than half a year and just recently having a change of heart to handle this. It was hard and there were many difficult decisions to be made. However, I'm beginning to feel a little better and that little progress is what matters. Thanks Slykitty~ (=・ω・=)

I cope with feeling burnout by procrastinating. But the more I procrastinate, the more stressed out I feel

Thank you, I think you are cool too b/w I think that everyone is or can become cool in his own right except for hopeless cases/ incurable people but those don't have anything to do with us (๑•ㅂ•)و✧
My treat for today ... this wonderful dance video. I usually like watching latin dance especially tango provided that it isn't too spicy, too erotic (I think that the dance is more appealing when there is an overwhelming tint of charm/ mystery/ elegance in it). I hope you'll like it (also it is a great reminder of how charming femininity can be amidst all this yaoi gallery [fine, "bishies" are awesome but elegant women are even more awesome. I have to defend my own kind too lol -_-])
