Translations can be an interpretation of the original language as it. Because some words and phrases have only an equivalent phrase to the original and not an exact translation to begin with. The Translators was thinking about other peoples feelings on the topic of weight, not just their own.
It's okay to change a word here or there as, like I said, it's an equivalent. But your comment is going a bit beyond a "critique" as you put it and more rude than anything. So, "you should stop getting your fragile fee-fees involved in this" and instead learn the language and translate these yourself.

The problem is tho that the original text (which in this case can not be a loose interpretation, the translator even mentioned that themselves) does simply NOT need to be changed. Because, as I said, the word was not mentioned in a negative way to begin with, so there is no reason other than people just being too imature to listen to a word and think of the context/situation it is used in (aka the fact it is NOT directed at THEM to begin with and not being used negatively).
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the intention really was to be 'nice and help' but they have not considered the intentions and wishes of the author, the wishes of regular readers that don't get triggered by a simple word AND the issue of this safespace change being possibly triggering for a completely different party. Because, what's the actual point of trying to avoid triggering for one group and delivered it to another? It makes your action redundant. And the only one that should be deciding these kinda changes is the original author themselves. After all, we're here to read THEIR story, not an alternate version of it.

Changing dialogue should not BE something a translation group does. They exist to translate, not to rewrite and adjust to their own or the preferences of their circle of contacts.
I know the intetion might have been pure and just, but it's just unnecessary and creates more trouble than it saves. And people should not be needing protection from words (again, positively used ones at that which are not directed at them).

And no, this has nothing to do with 'my fee-fees' I'm simply stating obvious issues and general annoyances of unnecessary changes that alter a story. (You seem to think I'm being emotional about this, for some reason? Not sure what gave you that idea.)
A critique can be void of feelings at times (and it usually is), just so you know.
And even if I did not bother putting on satin gloves to write a critique, it still is one. Whether you like it or not. I wasn't being rude either, I was just not kissing people's feet for no reason whatsoever and petting their head saying 'good child, you did so well'. I don't need to treat people like a fragile child when writing down mistakes they've made or issues they've created. Especially not while giving critique on a translation work of a very, VERY explicit yaoi comic.

It's not helping you either to bring up the 'go do it yourself then' arguement. It's entirely unrelated to the situation we are talking about. Please no sidetracking.


All in all it's just useless to adjust plotparts for a minority's safespace ensurance if A) the original plot was not meant to be that way and B) there are other groups of people who would be bothered by your alterations.
People that read explicit yaoi with hard sex scenes and violence-filled plotparts should not need mental babysitting while reading a word that wasn't even directed at them and not even used in a negative manner. If they do, they should probably not be on the internet to begin with.

Oh trust me, I'm a skinny bitch myself so I know what they had in mind. Tho even if my arms are pretty much skeletal, I still don't get triggered by this stuff (especially since it wasn't used in a negative way and not even directed at me).
Being sensitive is nice at times but I think this is overdoing it a bit. It can create triggering for other groups of people too, so I see no point in the alteration tbh.

I completely agree with this, authors spend so much time deciding what word to use and how to use it. So when translator groups come and change the words, it kind of ruins the whole vibe the author was aiming for. Yeah you might change them for the sensitive people but what about the non-sensitive people? Why should they be prioritized over the author’s original work?

They changed ONE word. Just ONE from an an exact translation.
Which translators do all the time. It's all depending on the context and situation. The only reason we knew at all is because they left a note so you could know the original context on your own.
It being an explicit webcomic series or not has nothing to do with it. They did it with good intentions as all translation teams do.
And you translating it yourself because you didn't like it did have a point. Because this team isn't just translating this series, they're cleaning it, and publishing it, and are not getting paid for it. They're working very hard so everyone can enjoy it.
And us, all of us, reading this translation on this site is against the authors wishes.
I guess I can't understand your views on this point. But that's just how it is and that's fine.

As a really skinny person who have been really insecure about myself I completely agree with what you’re saying. If they feel that it’s triggering then I think they should put a trigger warning and not change the dialogue. Those who gets triggered from it can just skip it.

I’m pretty sure the translation team put a lot of thoughts on this ONE word. They didn’t want to trigger some people so they decided to change it and put a note. Your comment make it seems like people are bashing the translation team for changing that ONE word. I get where both of you are coming from.
The original comment have the right to criticize them even though they did it of good will. What if there was an important scene but they decided to change it because they thought it was too triggering? What they did there wasn’t that big of a deal but what if others scanlation do the same thing? I’m sure there’s a lot of scanlation teams out there who would want to take on the project. I think what the original comment says goes for other manhwa/ manga/manhua and not just this.

That minor change can potentially cause problems if the author decides to give the main character a mental issue regarding his weight at some point. Did you consider that?
I appreciate work, but not unnecessary changes to the dialogue due to personal interests. #period
