Series like this really make you aware of the sexism in 90's Japanese society. Women are never the "boss", they are never doctor's either, they are always just assistants or pouring tea (this manga does confront this though). Also, in terms of marriage, the "stigma" about being unmarried at 30, or getting married in your 50's along with the idea that marriage means quitting your job, taking your husband's name and becoming completely dependent on him (the protagonists early goals). Guess this manga explores the internalized sexism the protagonist has towards her mother, her sister. Hopefully the MC will become less jaded with life and become more open. Interesting seeing the view of "foreigners" too.
