I figure mainly trying to say that you can't ever replace someone or something with another. You'll always have the memories and feeling for that specific thing. Even if it's replaced by something exactly the same, there will always be differences. So basically, nothing can be replaced, no matter how are you try.
Are you expecting the author to say, "This is wrong" or "This is right"? Are we to nod like sheep to someone's convictions, or are we to see both good and bad and make our own decisions? Technology is neutral; how we use and interpret it is up to us.
I don't get what the author is trying to convey there.
