I read somewhere that the explanation as to why so many women prefer BL to straight romance is cuz it takes away the "discrimination" factor. The way woman are perceived and judge, either by their image, actions and words, is boxed in prejudice, this becomes tiring for a woman to read. A romance where no women are involve implies that we are not bombarded with this publicity of what love should be perceived and portrayed by us. I don't know if I'm explaining myself (sorry not an English speaker) but there are a couple YouTube videos that dwell into it
