Maturity is not getting over trauma by yourself with no help while having to live with the person who caused it, is continuing to kill off your family, and you were forced to have a child with this person where this child may be conniving with your abuser to kill you. “He should be over it by now” and when would he have time to heal? And when would be the appropriate time to get over it? Frankly, I believe you are blaming the wrong person. It is not the mc’s fault he’s father is distant. Likewise, it is not the fathers fault and it is impressive that he was able to move on and I applaud him. It’s a sad situation all around

Neglect is also a form of abuse yes but the circumstances surrounding it should also be taken into due consideration. Still the emperor didn't really help the cause. Not talking u, but i actively see people in the comment sections cussing and wishing torture upon him and I kind of think it's extreme taking into account his all actions in summary. Like his brothers were killed one after another like flies by the Herace house, he couldn't marry the woman he loved, got forced into a marriage with a psychotic b then gets drug raped by her. A child is born and now he can't really feel much for the boy except looking at him and being reminded of what he was the product of. The emperor doesn't the kind of hate he gets

I do agree with the fact that he also deserves time to heal and that he doesn’t deserve the hate that he gets. I’m not saying he should “get over it” but he should learn to accept Etienne and what happened instead of pushing him away. He’s had almost 20 years to heal assuming that’s how old etienne is. Of course Etienne’s mother is to blame for all this but it doesn’t fully excuse the emperors blatant ignorance for his child. Sure he deserved better but so does his child. To heal is to also accept. “This child may be conniving with his abuser to kill you.” Right but if he hadn’t ignored his own child in the first place it wouldn’t be like that. The emperor just assumed etienne would be like his mother and distanced himself. Etienne is fr being punished for existing.

It’s completely plausible for the king to fear he’s soon wants to kill him even if he was in the kids life. He is a king, during a time where monsters are around and there is lots of conflict. He would not be the key parental figure to he’s son even if he wanted to be. As for not ignoring the blantant ignorance of his child, idk I could make the argument that orphans go through similar anguish as the mc. Feeling as if they are abandoned by the people who brought them into the world and are oftentimes placed in institutions that are abusive to them. Punished for just existing. Still often, not always, I don’t but any blame for the parents that put them up for adoption. These parents are technically “emotionally abusing” their children by the fact they are not there for them. The only difference is that the mc can see who his father is which may or may not be more harmful, I think it depends on the individual. But because I see this a fundamental the same as a raped women putting their child up for adoption I can’t bring myself to fault anyone but the rapist. In my analogy, in the future the mom may want to reconcile with her child and the child might forgive her or might not, still I blame no decision they make. You may have a different perspective on this and I bet most people will disagree to some degree with me but that’s how I see it.
