I think it's a personal choice how much body hair one keeps. I totally wouldn't date someone who told me what to do with my own body. If I want to remove certain hair, I'll remove it. If not, I won't.
Japanese people generally don't mind pubic hair like Americans do. After all, it's a natural thing and is a sign of sexual maturity. On the other hand, they're often embarrassed or grossed out by armpit and leg hair. Even guys. That is kinda awesome since my one part of my high school life is marked by a very hairy classmate talking about how macho he was while showing off his armpit hair which was so long that I had less hair on my head than he had on his pits! Even worse he smelled like B.O. and wet dog in dirty gym socks all the time.

It's not totally true. Androgen regulates the hairness in both male and female, and high level of testosterone can influence the androgenetic alopecia (when a man has no hair)
