However, Maxi actually began to grow her thirst for proving herself which I think is a big character development since she's been traumatized and insecure for a long time. This is a huge step. So making mistakes is inevitable. BUT SHE WILL LEARN FROM THIS.
Riftan has a point but I think the problem here is that he always seemed to imply that she can never be who she wants to be. We can speak facts about our partner to slap some sense to them but the way he always speak to her, IN MAXI'S SIDE, it's degrading her. And I'll never forget when the first instinct he had was to compare her to an already experienced healer who is Princess Agnes.
As someone who've read the novel, the one who helped her character grow is mostly Ruth and Agnes. They're the MVPS who actually is better support than the ML who kept assuming she is just a pretty princess

I don't think Riftan is a red flag but he's not a green one either. He's an orange one for sure. Besides, there's nothing remotely interesting about him. He's just your local ordinary bad boy who kept misunderstanding a rich girl because she lived a far better life than him when in actual, she was being abused.
What makes this outstanding is the ART and the premise that these two couple who suck at communication will get better. Then again, that kind of plot is already used a lot. So that leads to the execution of the story.

Riftan really sucks ass. He just sees Maxi as that rich pretty lady that needs protecting without getting to know her. I've already read his POV in the novel and It's still annoying AF that he treats Maxi more like a pretty vase than her own person. He doesn't bother reading deep into her, he's in love with the idea of her. He forced his own label of happiness on her which always backfires because Maxi feel like Riftan doesn't believe on her own capabilities.
There are other toxic MLs there so maybe my tolerance is high but still my standards are not on the floor. Riftan needs to step up because I keep thinking Maxi deserves better. Like a man who can treat her as an equal and uplift her dreams. A partner who's just blind to your beauty ain't it. A partner who stares in the same direction as you is the ideal one.

Like I've said I've already read it. It doesn't change that he's very annoying like he's always demeaning her and treating her as a toddler. He had to talk to her guards about what she did instead of directly talking to her. And people kept making excuses for his actions like he suck at communication - gurl if he doesn't even interested in listening to your side it means major problems
