i think the law changed in that time slightly but there still might be a oddness to females geting it

Previously i asked the same thing and i did get a lot of responses but those didn't really seem to fit perfectly but the one i thought that was most reasonable was that Elizabeth got married and so she wasn't able to inherit the title

Well, the way I understand was more or less like this: the law probably changed since that time, but avery is the only daugther of the previus heir, since then, she's has the first right to inheirance even being a woman. I may be wrong, but i had undestood this way.

She married only because she couldn’t get the position. Also i can’t remember if she was the elder one but I guess she even was. So yea only a change in law would be a fitting explanation or of the mind of society.
Her father seemed to close his eyes and ears quite often wouldn’t wonder if he just only went with the flow cause ppl told him a heir has to be a man stuff like that.

Even Avery was stared at with doubt when the duke named her hier. I do not think there is a law for daughters not to inherit its just that where they have a son no matter how talented the daughter is the son is prefered. There was a character maybe Avery's fathers fiance who broke up with the man to inherit the title. So it was possible, but only when there were no more options in the direct descendants. It is just uncommon and they have a prejudice against women. Just the usual. ╮(￣▽￣)╭

woah this makes sense... i feel bad for the women tho, sexism is way more severe in stories like this. but, there's a question left. elizabeth had 2 brothers and both of them died so she was the only heir left. wouldn't that means that her position was just the same as avery now? could there really be a change of law or is it because the current head favor avery?

No. Since she married a man she gave up her right before the death of her brothers. So she was disqualified from the inheritence. But since only she had direct descendants, her children still had the right to inherit thats why she was so obsessed with making Matthew the hier. And since she tought every woman was like her, and would obviously claim the inheitence, she never even guessed Avery would give it up, if it was offered to her, thats why she wanted to kill her. In my oppinion she is a pityfull, but also a hatefull woman. If she had been given the title from the beggining, then this whole drama would not have taken place, so she is pityfull for not being recognized. But I still hate her for not even askin Avery about if she is giving it up on her own and concluded that everyone is the same as her and just went straight into killing mode to get what she wanted. aaahh yes i missed the detail that elizabeth was already married! thank you so much for explaining :D and yes when i read her pov i pitied her but also pretty disappointed on how she handled things. if she took a little different path, she never would've ended this way. i really had hoped somebody understood her feelings then stood beside her so she won't be making wrong decisions when she's in a lost mind

Exacly. She was capable and could have been succesfull would she have been named hier. But since noone stood by her side she has turned into an executer witch who destroyed anything in her way to achieve her goal. （￣へ￣）

It's because of the law of succession. Like in real life Queen Elizabeth had 4 childrens but her first born son have childrens and grand childrens now so the position of Queen Elizabeth childrens have move. In this story Elizabeth have a brother since in that era the man has the most legitimate to inherit the position of the duke. So Elizabeth position move lower she tried to kill her brother to be the only heir but since her brother have a children which is Avery her position gets much more lower. Since Avery have no other siblings she's the only heir of the dukedom. So the current line of succession is:

1) Avery
2) Mathew
3) Mathew brother
4) Elizabeth

Talking and Elizabeth the character and Queen Elizabeth together is confusing. I'd say this is closer to how Queen Victoria became queen. Her uncle was king, and her father was 4th in line. As her Father's only child, she took his place in line when he died. And since all the other successors in front of her died without children, she was named queen.

If a woman marries to a family head, they themselves give up the right to inherit. But their children are still able to. Elizabeth in the comic married a family head, so she gave up her right in order to rise a son capable of being hier of the duchy. (=・ω・=)
