I used to read a lot of romance when I was young (before the yaoi gods took me). I suggest stories lighthearted like Mamotte! Lollipop or Digi Chart. Another good one that I really liked when I was young was actually Dengeki Daisy and Fruits Basket!

i read this one when i was in middle school! basically a slice of life with romance at the end (if u dont mind) but basically girl sees a boy who has a cat head throughout the whole story and it sort of becomes her goal to see him without it, if i remember correctly, (the cat head isn't real, bro has a human head but its like a figment of her mind or something i cant quite remember) but by the end of the story she does see his face (once she realizes she likes him), its a really good wholesome read imo!!
have them read "the promised neverland"! its a top tier manga about orphans finding their home and happiness :))
I suggest less romance or more like action manga bc thats where I started. Don't give them this site to read on... (speaking from experience)
