Anw, the duke mentioned that the Saint had a pilgrim pass. Carlton, too, has one now. So maybe my conjecture is correct?
I think it’s pretty definite that the Saint is him. There’s lots of little clues (aside from his build and how similar his face looks).
For example, while Carlton’s original fate was first said to have been disposed by the first prince, a later chapter says that he might have escaped. The pilgrim pass is another big one, especially given the reverence given to religious figures canonically (who would steal it off of a pilgrim’s corpse if not for ML lol). MC not already knowing how to talk like a pilgrim is also another big flag that the “Saint” is not a true saint, as he likely wouldn’t have picked it up from the coarse ML if he was the “Saint.” The thing he said about what the pilgrim told him (to turn one cheek to let someone slap it) definitely sounds like something somewhat sarcastic / mocking that Carlton would say that MC would just miss as not being completely sincere.
Carlton’s personality also lends itself well to acting like how MC saw the Saint acting (aiding those where he can).
Crying...it hasn't been updated for a year now...time to read the novel I guess.
