Okay, confession time I’m really sorry, but I kind of don’t love it when the FL jumps into these scenes. It’s not even dislike, it’s just that I fell way too hard for the father–daughter bond. That dynamic felt so raw and free, like they finally had room to breathe and exist on their own terms.
When the FL appears, the atmosphere shifts back into “proper plot mode,” and I suddenly miss that chaotic, unrestrained energy. I keep thinking… is her presence really necessary in every moment? Could we please let Leo and the dad take center stage a bit longer?
Yes, I’m fully aware this is ultimately a story about the ML and FL, and technically Leo is the one who barged into the original narrative flow. I understand that. But emotionally? I completely betrayed the intended storyline because the father–daughter arc captured me more.
There was something so satisfying about watching a ruthless, capable father and his daughter quietly (or not so quietly) dismantle imperial power together. I know this might sound unhinged, but in my heart, that was the real main plot, and I miss it every time we move away from it.
no cuz i thought the duke was gonna stay a permanent bachelor... i mean wasnt this already been set up? that the duke doesnt need marriage anyway bc he has a successor now? it wouldve been a lot more iconic if the duke remained single & for varia to lead her own life outside the confines of marriage...
The thing is, Varia really IS IMPORTANT for the plot, I don't wanna give spoilers but Varia can't be just taken out easily and you'll find out why eventually. Anyways, you really don't have to worry about the father-daughter relationship because if they are going to follow the novel closely their relationship will just get better and better, and the way they toy with the whole imperial family will just get funnier for the coming chapters. Also a little bit of a spoiler (not really) Varia will play a very important role in deepening the father-daughter relationship. You will absolutely love her and her weirdness.
“Anyway, this uninvited guest will be leaving now. If you fall into eternal sleep, let me know. I’ll send a wreath or something.”
“Uninvited guest? That’s a hurtful thing to say.”
As I turned to leave, Seong Hyunjae grabbed me and pulled me close. He yanked off my hat and tossed it away, then rested his chin on the top of my head. He’d done this before, why was he doing it again?
“I wasn’t invited, so I am an uninvited guest.”
“My items are a free pass anywhere.”
