there's a real yaoi couple in the book or people are simply shipping two boys?

I've only read the first of three books. The plot is basically that one prince (Damien) is betrayed and sold as a slave to another prince (Laurent). Basically they are not a couple (yet I think) but there is a lot of tension and some pretty hot scenes mingled with conspiracy theories and plot twists. I just started the second book and it's worth reading.
