Yea, first story started off nicely, but the ending was rushed and without much sense. Second story seems okay now, plot isn't going too fast, but I'm afraid it will around the end.
For now, I like the second story better, but if the author rushes it again, I think I'm gonna give up.

the magical book is literally the plot point the entire story is based on. It's fantasy. That has nothing to do with characters making unrealistic decisions and/or just completely changing in general.
