That’s facts. If you want to preach and converse then do so maturely. Such a toxic attitude is not needed.

This is a difficult question. Plainly speaking, I wouldn't say it gets "beautiful" later on, more so complex and real, and they certainly are considered a toxic pair. However, the writer does such a good job of making you feel for these characters, despite their many flaws, in such a realistic way that it becomes difficult to face hard truths. I think that's what everyone's getting at. That being said, I definately recommend reading it. Just understand that there are mature themes laced throughout the entire manhwa, that can be complicated and painful to read.

As a 13 year old i don't think it's that gory. I came for the gore anyway. Yeah well actually for the BL but it's not really a BL because the L is silent lol. (people who actually ship it are not right in their head and need help) It was a good story though… so yeah. I wholeheartedly agree with this comment; I found the way that Sangwoo mercilessly broke Bum's ankles with a hammer extremely gruesome, as well as the way he tried to hang him with that terrifying contraption of his. But, by far, I found the way Sangwoo callously raped Bum three times over the course of the story. Although I've come across several readers who think that they engaged into sex willingly, there have been several instances where Bum has repeatedly told Sangwoo 'no' throughout intercourse. I felt it was inhumane how Sangwoo could take advantage of him in such a frightening way, knowing that Bum suffers from BPD and has been raped and sexual assaulted by his uncle in the past.

However, I also want to take the time to answer your question from my perspective, but my answer is rather long, so I will probably just explain if I think Sangwoo loved Bum in the end, and vice versa.

    TW - Spoiler Alert:

I believe that Sangwoo loves Bum, albeit objectively. I can say the same with Bum as well. Bum had a deep affection and obsession for what he saw on the exterior of Sangwoo. When he realized that Sangwoo didn’t behave the way Bum was accustomed and had a liking to, Bum developed Stockholm syndrome to cope. Eventually, Sangwoo’s words started becoming more sweet and gentle as the dark and sinister memories of his mother began to surface. Bum saw this as a sign that his “love” was being reciprocated.

By the end of the story, Bum still was deeply affectionate of Sangwoo’s “soft side” and loved him from an objective standpoint. A part of Bum recognized that he could no longer allow himself to be hurt by Sangwoo any longer, but his hallucinations of the past threatened this way of thinking and tore him down into submission again. In a tragic and poetic way, Sangwoo, in his entirety, became the death of Bum, as Eunseo had been the death of Sangwoo. The cycle of tragedy had come to a standstill once and for all.

In terms of Sangwoo, in my opinion, I believe that Sangwoo loved Bum objectively, but it was love nonetheless. Sangwoo died calling out to the distance the name of the person who gave him peace briefly. Sangwoo didn’t love Bum as a person, but he loved him because he stood as a surrogate for his mother when she wasn’t there for him. Sangwoo loved the sense of power and control he felt while manipulating Bum, but Bum always loved him and felt sorry for the way he behaved.

Sangwoo always desired someone who could love him unconditionally, a person who could love him since the beginning of time, without question. Sangwoo’s mother, as all mothers should, was supposed to treat Sangwoo in this manner. The trauma that she etched in Sangwoo’s mind leered Sangwoo into believing that he wouldn’t have that figure in his life, which is why he inflicted pain and suffering to the people he victimized. In the end, Sangwoo died because he became the person his mother inevitably knew he would become. A tragic and poetic ending to a tragic and poetic story.

P.S. I've copied and pasted this response to people about a hundred times now, so if you've seen this answer on other people's questions, just know that I wrote this response and didn't steal another person's.

This response might be confusing to you because I haven't really provided much context, especially if you haven't read the entire story, which it seems you haven't. I will be replying to this comment with my full analysis, which contains several different spoilers and is extremely long in length, but just be aware that you aren't entitled to read the whole thing — just the parts that you're confused about. As I mentioned in my last response, I wanted to provide you with my analysis/interpretation of Killing Stalking, as I can sense the given confusion in your reply to the manhwa. I hope whilst reading this, I can clear up some of that confusion and present to you a perspective that I think will make things easier for you, but it is entirely your decision to do so, and I completely understand if you don’t read everything or even anything, really, because trust me, it’s quite a lot. As in this analysis is probably 3 or 4 pages’ worth of material. I don’t think most people are going to spend their time reading the entirety of it, so I have broken each section into parts and have numbered them to make your life just a little bit easier.

Each numbered section addresses these following points in this chronological order: “What do people like about Killing Stalking?”, “What is the relationship between Sangwoo and Bum, and what is your analysis of the two?”, “How are Sangwoo and Bum portrayed in the mainstream media?”, “Do you think Sangwoo and Bum loved each other?” (already answered in my previous response), “What is the relationship between Sangwoo and his mother, and how did that impact the events of his and Bum’s relationship in the story?”, as well as other detailed points that are mentioned throughout my analysis.

TW - Spoiler Alert (Although I am not someone who is fazed by spoiler alerts and actually likes reading other people’s thoughts and opinions before delving into the story on my own — this may not actually be the case with you, so if you don’t want to read any unnecessary details about the story, I suggest only reading the first section.)

    1. Killing Stalking isn't everyone's personal preference, and I think that's reasonably so. I only completed the manhwa 3 months ago, and I'm relatively new to the yaoi/webtoon community (not that Killing Stalking is a yaoi or a BL). I enjoyed the psychological aspects of the manhwa, as well as the mental disorders that are not-so-subtly portrayed, and I enjoyed reading Killing Stalking for the ominous and unpredictable plotline, as I had seen the manhwa appear on a few websites listing the top mainstream BL webtoons, but as I dived into the story, I quickly realized it wasn't anything like what these websites claimed.

The characters are unfathomable and sinister, and I thought the art was drawn beautifully, as the features of the main characters were not romanticized in any way. Killing Stalking is by no means a mere love story, and yet the portrayal of their love is warped in the most awful way possible. The derailment and ruination of the characters as they spiral into insanity is absolutely heart-wrenching and torturous for the reader, so-much-so that a good majority of people have difficulty reading further, or even reading those few particularly troubling scenes, one person being myself. (I was fortunate enough to be able to make it to the end, however.)

The depiction of the trauma that both Sangwoo and Bum faced (and still do face) is what intrigued me the most about this manhwa. In a perverse way, the story of Sangwoo and Bum is a re-enactment of Romeo and Juliet. Their fates are so intertwined that the words of one become the actions of another's, and that, tragically, is what twists into the demise of Sangwoo and Bum.

    2. In the first chapter itself, Bum is stated as having Border Personality Disorder. People who have this disorder are prone to having unstable relationships and unclear or shifting self-image. We are aware that Bum stalks Sangwoo, and infiltrates his house first. He feels he is in love with Sangwoo, although the reader is aware that it is not love, but toxic codependency and obsession. When he is kidnapped, abused and tortured by Sangwoo, he is not sure what to think anymore. To cope with this realization, Bum began to develop Stockholm syndrome.

Bum views Sangwoo as being someone with an "empathetic, considerate [and] gentle aura," but we are made aware from the very beginning that this is not the case. Although Bum had several opportunities to escape, and successfully, his mental illness made him unable to do so.

On an unrelated note, though, on my other account, I came across a question by a fellow Mangago user that asked why people were so taken and/or liked Killing Stalking, as the user themself did not enjoy reading Killing Stalking, and that user was immediately met with other users who used offensive slurs — such as a “slut,” “whore,” and “retard” — to describe Bum, which not only are inaccurate in describing Bum’s character, but none of these terms sufficiently address the mental disorder that Bum possesses.

Bum isn't a "slut" or a "whore" for continuing to stay with Sangwoo despite the psychological trauma and abuse he suffered — he had BPD, and therefore his mental condition rendered his relationships unstable and made him fearful of abandonment, although there never really was a consensual relationship with Sangwoo to begin with in the first place.

Bum also isn't "stupid" or "dumb" for not being able to escape from Sangwoo's clutches; he felt that Sangwoo was the only person who truly loved and cared about him, because he had willingly kept him in his basement for so long, and so since Bum felt that Sangwoo wanted him to live with him, he thought that he should only be able to tolerate the abuse for however long. Bum suffered abuse and trauma from his uncle, and so in his mind, Sangwoo’s actions were not all that uncommon to him, and he had already normalised his behavior before, so why shouldn’t he do so again?

I will be mentioning Sangwoo later on, as well as explaining his childhood much more in-depth, but I wanted to reiterate some of Sangwoo’s characteristics that most readers are already aware of.

Sangwoo is shown to be a sadistic psychopath who kidnaps, abuses, tortures, rapes and eventually kills his victims, who are depicted to be mostly females, although he does kill a man once in the story. When he is out and about in public, he is able to adopt a charismatic and kind personality, but his true persona is actually highly narcissistic and violent, as we understand from his interactions with Bum. It can be inferred that Sangwoo has bipolar disorder, as described when Bum feels like he is “living with twins,” but I have read that there is a potential that Sangwoo also could be suffering from BPD as well. People with bipolar disorder often experience frequent and manic mood swings, as Sangwoo has been shown to behave repeatedly throughout the manhwa.

    3. Once “Killing Stalking” became mainstream, a lot of the younger audience seemed to think of Sangwoo and Bum’s relationship as the two being “clearly in love” or exploring their sexuality together.” This type of objectification is flawed and the two should certainly not be “shipped together” by any means. I am fully aware that Bum did not engage into sex willingly with Sangwoo, nor is Sangwoo homosexual. I did notice, however, that people mentioned that you thought Sangwoo and Bum were not capable of loving each other, because their mental illnesses rendered them incapable of doing so. I argue to differ on this matter.

    4. *insert previous response where I wrote about my thoughts on whether or not Sangwoo loved Bum in the end, and vice versa*

    5. I will also be attempting to explain the relationship between Sangwoo and his mother, and the power dynamics between them, as well as giving an overall analysis of his mother.

There is a difference between caring for a person, and feigning care for a person. Eunseo clearly struggled with her emotional outbursts as what is relative with her various mental disorders, but it is evident that she falls into the latter. She is cognizant of what is right and wrong, and she knows when she is caught in wrongdoing. Although it is not specified what mental illness Eunseo has, it can be inferred that she suffers from postpartum disorder and struggles with having an emotional attachment to her son, and thus is unable what to make of Sangwoo emotionally.

There is also a factor of control that is lacking from her inside the household that people tend to ignore or displace. Traditionally, when a mother gives birth to her child, everything in her life revolves around the child; in other words, the child essentially controls the mother’s life. Coupled with the domestic violence that is apparent in the household and the mental disorders that stem from her childhood, Eunseo wants control over her life. This can be inferred from the juxtaposition between Sangwoo’s father and herself.

Sangwoo’s father, to some extent, is in control and making decisions and working around the clock for his child. He is portraying a level of control that is simply not present in Eunseo’s life. Sangwoo’s mother tends to do the menial tasks in the household which she appears to be forced to do; otherwise, her husband will continue to display abusive behavior. It also seems she is jealous of Sangwoo and the attention that his father exhibits towards Sangwoo that is lacking towards her.

Eunseo attempts to reclaim a sense of control in her life by having an affair and, at first, having physical control by getting rid of the source of her entrapment, which is Sangwoo. Later, she gains emotional and psychological control over him as well.

Sangwoo is very aware from a very young age that he and his mum are unable to form an emotional connection. They are just living together in a space and playing their respective roles in the household. The only one he appears to emotional relationship is with his father, and even with that, we don’t how much the domestic violence his mother faces plays a role.As a child, all Sangwoo ever wanted was to have a loving family; particularly, a loving mother, so he pretends not to notice or overcompensate emotionally to satisfy whatever his mother wants, which Eunseo often uses to her advantage to exploit him.

He spends the majority of his childhood with his mother, as she is a stay-at-home wife, and thus she is able to exact more control over him. This, in turn, made them have a codependency with each other that Sangwoo’s mother notably abused. Eunseo is able to obtain that element of control in her life, while Sangwoo gets the mother he thinks he wants and pretends as though nothing is wrong with his family.

We eventually know that this leads to Sangwoo’s mother being emotionally and physically abusive to Sangwoo throughout his entire childhood, killing his father in front of him, then slowly poisoning him. She then attacked him when he came home from school one day, and dragged him into the basement and restrained him with duct tape before proceeding to rape him. When he managed to grab a nearby knife to try to free himself and keep her away, she looked him dead in the eye and told him she wished he would die the most painful death, grabbed his wrists, and jammed said knife into her chest.

It was these very actions that the last of Sangwoo’s innocence and childhood was destroyed. One of the most notable scenes to date in Killing Stalking was the scene where Sangwoo’s mother callously asks Sangwoo the oh-so-curious question, “Do you know how to kill someone without killing them?”

Sangwoo’s mother, as I mentioned before, destroyed everything good that existed before in Sangwoo’s world. She shattered him to the core by betraying him, and left his wounded heart to bleed out in the open. There is no excusing Sangwoo’s heinous actions, but his mother was a destroyer herself who led her son on to that path of destruction himself.

P.S. I just want to congratulate everyone who made it to the end and decided to spend a good 15 minutes of their day reading a useless analysis that most people would skim through anyways. I generally enjoy writing analysis, but this is probably one of my favorites, by far, because I regarded Killing Stalking as equal parts poetic tragedy and psychological thriller, but this is my thoughts on the manhwa and my thoughts alone. People are free to disagree with parts or maybe all of this analysis, but I just wanted for a few people to get the opportunity, if possible, to read and give me their thoughts on it as a whole.

Best wishes, my friend (I am also thirteen!), and I hope you do read to the end of Killing Stalking. If not, let’s hope that this analysis gave you a clearer perspective of it overall.

Farewell for the present, and have a good day!

Wow a few of these responses have quite a few spoilers in them, sorry if that ruined it for you. Going back to the age thing though, I agree that this is definately a mature manhwa; however, I wouldn't really say it's for me, or anyone, to tell someone else that they can't read it. It all depends on your understanding of yourself and what you can and can't handle so just be aware that this manhwa is intended for an older audience.

About your question, I would say that this webtoon purposefully envokes chills as it is a horror story and horrible things do happen to the characters in it so that wont change. As for Bum and Sangwoo, I would say that they are more than just a stalker and a psychopath. They have complexities to them that the author tries to portray in their respective stories. This is in no way a perfect manhwa and I definately wouldn't consider it a romance either, so if that is what you were looking for you won't find it here, this is just my opinion. They are both mentally ill and in both cases looking for something non-existent in one another. Although there are instances were they seem to be romantic with each other or are on friendly terms there is more going on than what there seems, and this to me is not love.
I hope I answered your questions adequately enough and let me know if you have any more!

    Ahh, thank you so much! (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ

You have no idea how much this means to me! In all honesty, I used certain sources and read other people's interpretations on Twitter, Reddit, Tumblr, and I agreed with many of their points, so I just decided to elaborate on them and provide more context/detail. But can I just say that I am extremely impressed that you read through the entire thing? I literally copied and pasted it into Google Docs and noticed it was 4 pages. There is no way in hell, I thought, that anyone was actually going to spend 15 minutes (probably closer to a half an hour xD) wasting their time reading that shit. So I just want to give you an enormous 'thank you' through the screen for doing that! It really means a lot to know that people are interested (maybe not lmaooo) in reading what I have to say.

    TW - Spoiler Alert

I agree with what you said about how gruesome Killing Stalking was. I actually considered not reading the ending because I read about Sangwoo's death in advance and I started panicking (I don't know what tf is wrong with me, man) and having nightmares at night. I'm a soft boiii too, so the whole manhwa was terrifying to read in and out, but it's worth making it to the end. You might even shed a few tears or two (lmaooo I already shed the tears at night). It's honestly just worth reading it to the end just so you can understand the Tik Tok memes and laugh along with them, but I digress.

I hope you are having a wonderful day, my friend! ლ(´ڡ`ლ)

I actually do this all the time. I'm surprised that there are people like me who like to communicate with other people, and don't worry, I ask for people's Instagrams all the time. You aren't weird at all!! I'm the weird one, because whenever I feel an "emotional" connection to someone or like talking with them, I get all sensitive and I want to talk to them more, so I kind of get personal and they either like doing that or don't. You're the first person I've met on this site that's interested in getting to know other people like me. AND OMG WHO DOESNT KNOW WATTPAD FANFICS!!! I was obssessed with Harry Potter fanfics (gay/straight ofc) brooooooo (⊙…⊙ )

I would totally love to be friends!! My Instagram handle is @sohani870. I hope I am the one who doesn't sound weird. I am just a pure and divine soul (not) who is naive and likes talking to people whenever I get the chance. What's yours?

Ahhhh, thank you so much for asking my dude (I'm bi, so I use both mas/fem nouns, please don't hate me xD)!!
