I've always had a hunch it had something to do with time. Especially when Diablo tried to attack the mask and failed. Wasn't it heavily alluded with their character designs too? When Rimiru gave the mask to Chloe I realized it then that she would need to go back in time to create a paradox. Diablo couldn't damage the mask when Shizue wore it because Shizue needs to give it to Rimiru who needs to give it to Chloe for Shizue to have it in the first place.
Love the concept, fresh, new, exciting. At least to me, similar enough to it's peers in the same genre but with a fun twist. I can't predict where the plot is going to go which adds an element of mystery that makes me want to keep reading. Slice of life aspects too but the action and plot are just so good! The art is amazing and I like how dynamic and expressive the characters are, strong traits and wills that make it feel like they are actually living inside the story rather than an npc.
