Yes he was still a replacement. Nothing changed but the vamp coming back however many years later. He didnt actively chase him. He put in no effort to know him or spend time with him. The vamp told him he had wanted him a bit older anyway so actaully got exactly what he wanted. Still a replacement.

Exactly. I was going to write a similar comment to yours. The uke clearly said he will not become his partner if he was a replacement. The vamp left to work on his feelings, when he did, he went back to the person he loves now. Obviously the uke knows that he's not a replacement. but well many kids read these mangas without having proper age to understand adult situations and read between the lines.
Not saying your explanations wrong, but it took him ten years to sort out his feelings and figure out that uke wasn't replacement. Ok... That's kind of a dick move. I think I would have been happier if he'd been asleep, cause than he'd have no choice but to not see him for ten years. But here he decided to. But Jesus man, ten years... Darn if I was the uke I'd be in a happy, gay relationship with an adopted kid by then.
I thought the same. But when the vampire came back he said something along the lines of "ready to be my companion now?" Which kind of implies that he gave the uke 10 years to reconsider. Not that he sorted out his feelings and is now in love with him.
Maybe it's just the wording. But a little more of that story would help a lot.
