I think the geek IS trying to "stay in his lane" on the surface,but like everyone else he has to try and manipulate things behind the scenes to survive. As far as Azusa trusting Karino, he's been "saving" him in a sense, but tbh neither option has ever looked good to Azusa. Karino is just the lesser of two evils in his eyes. It's either be fucked against his will by 1 guy who treats him like shit or be fucked against his will by any guy in the school above his caste that feels like some revenge since he was the last king. There're a few moments where it looks like Azusa is starting to like Karino, but it looks more like stockholm syndrome tbh.
I agree that he didn't necessarily "save" him, but i can't agree with you saying he "doesn't care for Azusa". I'm not sure what TYPE of "care" it is, could be possessiveness, could be really well hidden love, but there is DEFINITELY more implied there than just that he wants sex. It's Azusa SPECIFICALLY that he wants and he gets SUPER jealous over him. Whether that's out of love or out of possessiveness is up to you to decide till we get some more insight on Karino's perspective. I think it's love personally, i think his harshness comes from the caste system making everyone harsh and from the way the two of them fight rather than interact. Azusa is always fighting him, which probably pisses him off if he DOES love him because he probably assumed that now that he's king he'd be able to just... Have him. No effort. But that isn't the case and Azusa is always pushing things farther by purposely agitating him and making him jealous. There seems to be a shared history as well that might provide insight into why Karino can't just treat him normally.

exactly, and atleast i know, that karino will not let anyone have there way with azusa until unless there is something in for it or if he is teaching a lesson to azusa like how he did with the glasses guy and azusa.
Obviously he is not saint but atleast he is not the demon in this school..
I also feel that he is possessive of azusa like this is something which i have on my own without my family giving me and stuff, obviously his family has a huge hand behind how he is behaving
