He didn't need this tragic weird ass backstory. He's fine how he is. Author's need to get comfortable with readers consuming the story and personality without writing characters backwards.

Like do they all know each other outside of the game and they're all playing a multiplayer game together, but they got stuck and all their memories got jumbled from being stuck in the game and they forgot each other and they're all players who just think the others are NPCs because they forgot?
