I'm getting some Rockstar 2001 vibes here...

And once this flashback's done, the trauma from that time will just magically disappear. I'm sure they will play it off as "you were just an idiot bro, get over it" and move on as if that's how you solve mental health. An arc where he actually had to go to therapy and everyone including him had to deal with that would have been a more interesting arc than this "will he, won't he (he won't, twice)" that they had after the first rejection.

I hate how idiot plots are so prevalent in stories like these. So many people could have said or done something to prevent things coming to this point, but no, plot demands she misunderstands Riftan and goes back to her father, so everyone turns into an idiot for that to happen. Riftan doesn't tell her, no one else who is neither an oaf nor emotionally compromised as the father of the lost baby tells her. The Princess doesn't tell her after they leave... or when they arrive in the captial... or when she is fully safe and healed. The princess also doesn't shut Maxi's father down even after talking back rudely to a member of the royal family, especially since she knows he's been planning a marriage for years and hanging that over him would be considerable leverage.

I also find it strange how they didn't see or take into account her reaction to her father coming to her, or the talk she had with him, are they blind, don't they see her body language???hello. And after seeing that, no one is like "wait, what if maxi doesn't have a good relationship with her dad based on her complexion, reaction and body language, hmmmmm I will investigate", I just can't man. But the plot demands it i guess.

Finally. Get this trauma reveal over with now.

**Devil's advocate warning!**
The dude is clearly suffering from an irrational trauma from their childhood, its not an issue you can just solve by "man the fuck up", the guy doesn't need lecturing, he needs a therapist. That being said, it does seem like the author intends for that to be the case, its going to be one long string of people calling him an idiot until he just magically gets past it. Chapter after chapter of making him look like an indecisive schmuck while only vaguely hinting at the reason he looks like he's about to have a nervous breakdown every time their relationship comes up.

I very much agree, fellow chin

Her: *Sends passive-aggressive text to shut him up*
Him: *Shuts up*
Her: "How dare he ignore me!"

Look, if you have questions, just ask him. It takes two to tango, not explaining anything may be on him, but if you also won't ask him about it, that's definitely on you.

Wow, after telling him you wouldn't let him carry the burden alone ever again, you drink the tea to save one girl (who doesn't look like she's gotten her memories back yet anyway so good job), plunging the empire into civil war where thousands might die instead... and of course you leave everything to Isle again...
Some promise.

Even if we accept that defying the lord is useless anyway and whatever she did the end result would be the same, she would've looked far better resisting him with all her might until he had to force-feed her the tea (I mean we didn't see the moment in question, but the implication certainly is she just gave in and drank it).
The girl's life wasn't being threatened, and the lord probably wouldn't kill her anyway because then he'd lose the one thing he has over her. Instead she threw her hands up in the air over some promise that he so obviously was never going to keep, trusting that someone else will fix this mess for her.

Sorry but please take your dirty witch hands off him.
And Eleanor should not be forgiven after this. No matter the reason for it. They could not even spare him the mercy of telling him the truth, his memories were going to go anyway...

If this had truly been for his sake then she should've put on a brave face and told him so. But no, without a word she seals his fate and then can't even look at what she's done.

I guess she really never changed from that person that without hesitation would take away another person's memories to protect herself from being emotionally hurt. I hope the harsh words Kaidel told her about it will haunt her through many chapters to come.

Kaidel thought they had finally opened their hearts to one another. But it seems what he thought was the real her was just another layer of her lies.
