I've been reading this since it only had 5 chapters released, so i understand why so many people are sad to see it end, but personally im so happy. I've always wanted to see penelope reach an ending that she deserved and stand her ground against her family. she did just that. it feels a bit nostalgic looking back, but i think stretching this out would've completely ruined the pace and plot. it's the perfect time to wrap things up. all in all a 10/10 read !

the most room temperature sex I've seen in recent bls

infermiterol June 17, 2026 4:55 pm

user Purky (comment below me) said this, but bottoms saying "you're the first one I've had butt sex with" IS purity culture. it's so odd seeing this shit in (what is essentially) queer art because it's so conservatism coded. there's also the issue that bl as a genre is mostly made up of straight women as artists. idc what anyone says, as a queer girl it's obvious to me that a lot of plot points in bl genre is straight women living out their romantic fantasies through gay guys.

so the indoctrinations and misogynistic concepts like purity culture, masculine-feminine stereotyped relationships, heteronormativity etc bleed through; whether it's intentional or not. can you tell I've got a lot to say about this lmao

    Toru June 17, 2026 5:19 pm

In that case is it more like Josh was actually a manwhore before he got Pete, a straight one. So pointing that out to Chase should make Chase kind of special for him.
And with "BL" it's actually not that obvious, but the japanese way of tagging the stories made it more clear. Yaoi/ shounen ai, is more for straight females. Bara was really gay manga. But nothing stops anyone of reading whatever they like.
It's just you should be aware of it that most BL is actually mainly for straight females, if that makes sense for you is another story. But it's actually pretty obvious if you go by the fans of boybands.

i think there are some works where yes, you can see that the first time thing is evident. but at the same time, the author has another work where both the tops and bottoms sleeps around with so many people that it filled a stadium so i don’t think your logic applies here. either way, it’s a fictional work so it’s best not to think too deeply about it. i understand the importance of learning through fictional content you engage with but this is really not it

    ZOOOOM June 17, 2026 6:23 pm

    I agree wholeheartedly!!
I also think that omega’s that are made to be small, dainty and weak genuinely just represent how society views women and it’s either another fantasy or just genuinely internal misogyny.
Ofc not all small, dainty and weak omega’s are a representation of internal misogyny playing a part but the majority just feel like they are, especially when they a lot of the times just get treated like women in the real world.
They “have to be protected” and “cant fend for themselves” or are just objectified.

Also somehow from all the omegaverse story’s Ive read Ive never seen an omega abort the baby that they didn’t wanna have which also says a lot I think.

oh we're def on the same wavelength

omegaverse is almost always centralized around lack of "control" and sexual assault, which i think could definitely desensitize people who regularly consume content like this. i think people often forget that these works are from SOMEONE. like someone's internal world and thought processes produced this content, and we should search for meaning in it if possible. you made a great point about internalized misogyny, i do agree that mainstream yaoi reflects it in some ways, like how top-bottom has turned into a description of power dynamics instead of what it initially was: sexual dynamics. there's a lot to be said about omegaverse but because it mostly originates from fanfics and written media, i think it's become more graphic than it was intended to with less world-building.

anyway fuck people who say don't read it if you don't like it ! sorry but im gonna use my brain

josh saying that to chase and chase feeling 'special' after hearing it is the problem itself. not really a problem but more like a phenomenon, i guess. purity culture is often countered with the notion that virginity is just a social construct, that's why losing his 'virginity' to him shouldn't even be important enough to make chase feel special, that's the whole point.

also im aware that the target audience for this content is women. that's what the whole paragraph is about lol. my main point was that bl/shounen ai/yaoi kind of content involve ideals or norms that women are subjected to, (social norms and patriarchal frameworks and whatnot) BECAUSE it's inevitable that those beliefs show in their art since they were raised into them- hence why the genre isn't really targeted towards gay men. because it doesn't reflect *them*. to me it's ironic that a genre that looks queer-oriented on the surface usually doesn't reflect issues that queer people face and suffer from, except for a few series. because the stigma and inequality women and gay men face might look similar in the way they're both rooted in prejudice and oppression, but they really aren't similar other than that.

In this case it's not about "virginity" but more about the fact that he only ever felt attracted to women and he's going ballistic after meeting chase.

I think that's reading too much into it. How is purity culture in picture if it's not the person's first time having s3x?? Not like they were saving themselves for their partner or blah blah. Please stop picking up words and inserting it anywhere. The purity culture comes from the fact that individuals save themselves for their marriage partners and similarly wanting virgins too. Neither chase not josh had any such ask. Here, he's just saying he became a bisexual after meeting chase. Before that he was straight. So chase is the first man he's been with.

i don't think you see what im trying to get across. im saying that this isn't purity culture as we know it but sounds like it because it's written by a person who was likely exposed to it as a woman, and therefore inadvertently includes similar elements. that's the bigger point i was trying to discuss. you can't portray purity culture in the traditional sense in queer work because conservative values inherently clash with the community as a whole. and in works like these that *aren't* intended for that audience but *look* like they are, there are a lot of signs of concepts that are usually fed to women as norms. chase reacting to joshua's words in a pleased/positive way is also something that women are told: your partner will feel good about being your *first* because you're *pure.* this is what makes virginity an asset in many people's eyes. purity culture isn't just limited to christian origins and spaces.

also becoming a bisexual is a crazy phrase

Idk about crazy phrase here cause I have atleast one person in my life who was straight but then got together with a person from same gender so you never know your spectrum and that's the beauty of it
