She runs this shit with an iron fist NOBODY getting past her. She locked the EMPEROR in a room knowing war was coming because he’s technically her only claim to the throne and she doesn’t see him as capable enough to survive this, just like the literal child that’s also in the room with him. She knows she can do this shit on her own.
She is so incredibly compelling as a character and it would’ve been amazing to know her as she is if the author didn’t include the assault as a base of her power. In another life they could’ve really ran shit but unfortunately what’s happened has happened and her character is unredeemable already.

It is devastating to watch Kim Dan sink into such a deep depression. It hurts because Dan is naturally so kind. Seeing someone you love suffer through these episodes leaves you feeling completely helpless. Even someone as seemingly heartless as Joo Jaekyung would feel the sting of it. Jaekyung isn't completely devoid of feelings. He simply doesn't know how to handle emotion or how to love someone better. But watching Dan slip away into that dark place would break something inside him, too. No matter how tough he acts, pain like that still leaves a mark.
