In that second-to-last scene where he's just *glaring* at that other cat like, "You'd better be nice to my spare human here, I spent a lot of time sorting things out with the Rat!"

Koma is a precious tsundere baby in a way that would annoy me in a human, but is adorable in a cat.

When you don't pick up your boyfriend's calls for three weeks, asshole! How the hell are you so busy for *three* *weeks* that Kotaro can't get a hold of you on the *cellphone*?!?

Nah, you deserved your worry, Ayumi. You brought this on entirely on your own. I'm still glad Kotaro ignored your calls, even if you've made up now. Maybe next time life gets hectic you'll have the basic courtesy to PHONE BACK!!!!

That said, there'd *better* be fluff next chapter! I don't wanna see Kotaro crying anymore!

    Leech September 20, 2017 6:02 pm

Kotaro never called Ayumi-san tho. Ayumi was the only one who kept calling Kotaro. I cant see where youre coming from lmao

    Booboo September 20, 2017 6:36 pm

Well I think he only called once or twice cuz he didn't want to bother ayumi... And ayumi WAS busy which was why he didn't call kotaro when he usually does. But he called back didn't he? And the one ignoring calls after that was kotaro lol

This is long, sorry. It's the type of fan I am. However, I think it makes my point.

Kotaro calls, then sends Ayumi a message. There is no call back or reply message, followed by a montage of daily life.

    http://www.mangago.me/read-manga/fushidara_na_hanatsumi_otoko/mi/099e3966120641c6472c6cb93c8b6403_chapter-9/15/
Kotaro calls again, it's implied after a week. He receives one line back in a text, then calls back immediately. No answer.

    http://www.mangago.me/read-manga/fushidara_na_hanatsumi_otoko/mi/099e3966120641c6472c6cb93c8b6403_chapter-9/16/
Kotaro says, "Since then I haven't been able to reach him... But at least I'm here." In the third panel, which implies that he's phoned more times off screen, followed by, "Ahh, the first time here after two weeks." Which gives us a timeline.

In the next page, Kotaro gets a hug, a kiss, and Ayumi leaves with no explanation, no timeline, and a promise to return that evening. However, on page 22 we see Kotaro fell asleep at 1:25 AM with no Ayumi in sight, and no message. On page 24, there is clearly daylight coming in from behind the curtain when Ayumi comes home. He ruffles Kotaro's hair and heads to bed, without even the basic Japanese greetings.

    http://www.mangago.me/read-manga/fushidara_na_hanatsumi_otoko/mi/099e3966120641c6472c6cb93c8b6403_chapter-10/8/
Kotaro left a written note informing Ayumi of his plans. There is no response. (I'm not expecting him to send a note, but a text would do)

    http://www.mangago.me/read-manga/fushidara_na_hanatsumi_otoko/mi/099e3966120641c6472c6cb93c8b6403_chapter-10/9/
Kotaro says, in the bottom right panel, "I couldn't reach him when I wanted to apologize." He also says, in the panel before that, that he had attempted to wake Ayumi to tell him in person, but was unable to manage it. Also, there was a montage panel again, and Kotaro is wearing different clothes. More days have passed.

    http://www.mangago.me/read-manga/fushidara_na_hanatsumi_otoko/mi/099e3966120641c6472c6cb93c8b6403_chapter-10/15/
The friend asks Ayumi if he has more free time. More. Which means Ayumi has had it, and has just chosen not to contact Kotaro.

    http://www.mangago.me/read-manga/fushidara_na_hanatsumi_otoko/mi/099e3966120641c6472c6cb93c8b6403_chapter-11/4/
This is the first time we've seen Ayumi contact Kotaro. Our timeline tells us it's been a minimum of two weeks and four days, unless Kotaro changes his clothes halfway through the day. Likely it's been more. We have had five canon active attempts to communicate, and three passive ones, and that's assuming Kotaro has only called once any time he mentions an off-page call. There was only one response, and when Kotaro had done what Ayumi said he'd gotten two complete sentences and a hair ruffle for his trouble.

After that Aymui started calling Kotaro.

Let alone the mind-fuck that *vile* blonde dude gave him, Kotaro has plenty of reason to feel hurt. He absolutely has been ignored by his boyfriend, whom it is made clear several times has never said anything loving or possessive of Kotaro since that first, "You're mine."

Quantity is not the same as quality. Just because Ayumi started spamming Kotaro with calls three weeks in doesn't mean he's off the hook for those three weeks. Kotaro has consistently been attempting to contact Ayumi right up to the point where he's convinced he's about to get either dumped or played. Ayumi has only himself to blame.

I don't mean for that to come across confrontational. When I say, 'that's the sort of fan I am', I just mean that this is the sort of conversation I like having about the things I enjoy. I spent half of work the other day having an on and off conversation with a coworker about how not having the timeskip between Bilbo's birthday and Frodo leaving the Shire changes everything about the dynamic the hobbits have with each other and those around them. That's what I consider fun.

I agree with that. Kotaro shouldn't have ignored Ayumi either. I have to say, though, if it was me I'd have quit calling much sooner than Kotaro did, and I'd be furious and hurt when my boyfriend *did* get back to me. I really don't like feeling like an obligation, so I can be a little touchy about this. I'm more sympathetic towards Kotaro because he didn't stop contact until someone else with a poisonous agenda preyed heavily on his insecurities, while Ayumi just couldn't be bothered, but they both did wrong.

That's fair. I know not everyone enjoys analyzing things the way I do. I've had bad luck with unsupported arguments becoming mud-slinging in the comments, though, so I didn't want to leave the links out.

tl:dr would be "Kotaro has been consistently, if sparingly, attempting to reach Ayumi for almost three weeks, at minimum, before Ayumi showed any concern or reached out at all."

Thanks for hearing me out and trying to see my side, even if it was ridiculously wordy.

dawn January 15, 2017 9:11 am

I don't normally like them very much, but I really want to see what happens next! I love when manga is realistic in its portrayal of things like trauma. There's not enough of that.

Not that I don't enjoy other stories, but it's an entirely different sort of satisfaction. This one has fairly compelling characters and plot, though rather cliche. Something about the style, though... it makes me want more.

    Cake-o January 17, 2017 8:35 am

I like it when manga portrays trauma realistically also! I'm not sure if this is a rape = love story or a story that might try to portray actual Stockholm syndrome. Seems like the former. -_-
I just can't root for a couple when their relationship involves rape...

    dawn January 17, 2017 3:54 pm

I... have done, but I at least acknowledge that it's an unhealthy relationship? And only fiction?

Generally I like happy, everyone-consenting stories, but non-con and its associated subgroups (like rape, rape play, blackmail from outside, and occasionally even honest misunderstandings) are a kink of mine.

The trauma in this one, though, is just such a gut-punch that there's no way I could *not* feel for the uke. I can't wait to see what happens, and how he responds to it!

Bah, hadn't read *all* my notifications when I responded. I didn't like the later chapters. I think I'm going to tag this with "Only first two chapters, ignore canon after that". I had such high hopes! Then the chain, then that stupid confession. "I was a kid and didn't know how to express it". Really? How about by *not raping him*?!?

    Gah. Pissed. Grrrr.

dawn December 24, 2016 5:48 pm

I know probably no one really cares about this, but since the translator commented on it...

Futsal is a variation of soccer played indoors on a hard floor. The ball is smaller, harder, and bounces less then a regular one. Unlike conventional indoor soccer, which usually takes up the whole of the gym and you can bounce the ball off walls, futsal has boundary lines. When the ball goes out play is re-started with a kick rather than a throw in. There are only five players on a side, one of which is the keeper, and substitutions are on-the-fly and unlimited (like in hockey).

I love soccer, but I am very much a fan of open spaces and wide kicks. Futsal did not suit me, but it's still fun.

Like I should either totally condemn the manga, or like I should be crowing 'it's not rape!' Neither of those suit. Yes, it is rape. No, there's no excusing that. HOWEVER, and this is a pretty fucking big however, this is porn. Things like forced sex, violent rape, and coercion are *always* popular in *any* porn. And the reason for *that* is that they are *extremely* popular *kinks*! They are *certainly* my kinks! When I want to read something I find romantic I never come to these, but when I just want to get off it's always straight to the non-con for me! And that's fine, because this is just fantasy. However, the people apologizing for it should probably take a step back and look at their ethics. Just own that non-con gets you hot. There's nothing wrong with that, so long as it either stays a fantasy or is planned out and executed with a willing partner in a safe, sane, and consensual way. We can all get along here, people!

    Jeje October 3, 2016 5:42 pm

Theres always people who protest about something morally wrong in fiction work but read it and secretly like it anyway. ლ(´ڡ`ლ) I'm glad i'm not that kind of people and just straight think "I'm going to hell after this" lol

    dawn October 3, 2016 6:41 pm

You and me both, friend, you and me both. I just got a little sick of seeing my kink always getting hardcore ragged on and decided to let off a little steam. Now, back to my, "Going to Hell" reading list... (≧∀≦)

    Anonymous November 3, 2016 7:21 pm

I don't like non-con but dear lord it is everywhere. At first I was outraged and would quit the manga right away, however I got used to it and now I just finish the manga. I still don't like it but being exposed to it so often did change my attitude towards it. See how these manga's are not so innocent.
We should stop pretending they are.

But I do. So where does that leave us? YKINMK, and I would like to see *more* consensual sex in manga, so I understand you there, but how would you change this? Which manga authors do we look at and say, "Okay, we have too much non-con, you can't do that anymore"? Which scanlation circles?

Perhaps they aren't, but they have one useful purpose even then: As fiction tools, they can open up paths for non-acrimonious dialogue that *can* help change that. However, attacking something someone else likes isn't going to solve anything. That makes them defensive and puts everyone on the wrong foot to begin with.

There are things that can be done even within the framework of /comments on porn/ to combat rape culture, but too many people are going about it the wrong way and immediately getting themselves discredited by the people whose opinions they are looking to change. Telling me my kink is evil is never going to change it, yet that what the majority of the comments I see try to do. All they do is make me mad.
