It really annoys me sometimes that people assume rape fiction is only enjoyed by people who want to take the control away from someone. But actually that is not very true. Wanting to feel the loss of control is actually a very common fantasy (1/3rd of women feel that way) and about wanting to feel overwhelmed versus being the one overwhelming.
Also, it is fiction, you as a reader have the choice to continue or stop the story. That’s already the built in safety.
Obviously i dont condone people who enjoy it for the opposite reason (enjoying it as the rapist) but can we not shame the people that enjoy it for the flipside?
honestly i just read stuff like that because i love the redemption arc and the regret stuff and in this case the protectiveness from the ML, i do NOT at ALL enjoy the actual rape parts i just suffer through them because then when everyone’s finally happy and together it feels even much better to read
The other side to the enjoyment doesn’t make it less problematic? The entire topic within itself is taboo, and both of these fantasies whether abt losing control and wanting to take control through rape aren’t healthy And the third of women who fantasize abt “losing control” and being taken advantage of doesn’t exempt them from fetishizing women or ppl in general who actually are forced into these positions, in the same way that fetishizing dominance doesn’t either.

I personally even read stories that include romanticization of rape, but im not gonna sit here and parade myself as a victim to criticism when i know it’s problematic. Which is that you can be a victim of sexual assault, indulge in media that romanticizes it and acknowledge that it’s harmful.
