I hate selfless main characters, woulda been so much better if she was at least a little angry.
But how could she have been angry at all? She was far too young to understand adult decisions. You are only angry for her because you have the mental capacity to see how this could have been handled differently. The family is redeeming enough to forgive because they truly do love Rie and had to make tough decisions to
Keep her safe. They most likely tried to figure something else out but nothing worked except for this. If they didn't do it, Rie would die for being useless.
I do agree to some extent of the statement “redeeming enough to forgive”. But I don’t think the “grandfather” is worth redeeming. I get the father since he’s in the border and I also understand how and why the brothers(specifically the youngest one) were like that since they are children, but the grandfather is a huge factor why mc was neglected and suddenly he’s all soft and being overprotective like he never yelled and pushed her away like she doesn’t matter. I absolutely hate it how author brushed off how the grandfather treated her originally. He only started to care after she had powers.
While I get the grandfather isn’t exactly a good person, but you have to think, he only did it to create distance so no one would suspect he is any help to his granddaughter. He doesn’t hate her and while its a pathetic excuse, isn’t honest with his feelings. Yeah, he should have kept tabs on the family he trusted to watch her but as I said, created distance in her benefit so she is safe from death.
