So basically Ren was in love with Makis brother and ended up in a relationship with Maki to use him as a substitute.
Later on to help get funds for the brothers new company he died in a facility that extracts people's DNA and memories to make humanoids illegally.
From the beginning to the end everything Ren did was for the married brother of his boyfriend.
