And he would have known that in at least most of her lives. He doesn't need his lie detector ability to know that (go to next *). That's why her acting had to be amusing (not deceptive) enough for him to allow her to live. It wasn't until this life that she could accomplish that.
*In the novel we read Ashley isn't exactly unaware that Castor may know she's lying.
Plus it's made clear in the last chapter that even if Amor didn't die Ashley would still have had a hard time because she would have still lost Amor's support.
