Mika is running away from a family he can't make proud, and Souji is running away from a family that is broken. Both are suffering from feelings of emptiness and loneliness and console one another throughout their school days into adulthood.

Their relationship is ambiguous and at first is just a way to offer comfort to one another, like comrades that have the same trauma.

As time moves on, Souji realizes that he no longer wishes to just be Mika's comfort, but also be someone he can actually see for him, as a person who loves him. He longs for an actual relationship with Mika, not just a fleeting space where they lick each other's wounds. This change is what Souji meant when they no longer wish for the same things that they did before.

Mika's father's death is a bit of a catalyst for him to realize that he has deeper feelings for Souji than just someone to comfort him. The person that caused him the most grief in his life is gone, but he still craves Souji's company. While Mika is still terribly afraid of his own feelings, this is the turning point.

After Mika and Souji's fight following Mika's mom contacting them and Souji telling her where they live, Mika comes to terms with the fact that he has, indeed, been running from his past and had just been using Souji. He also comes to fully accept that Souji means more to him than just an object that he can use to comfort himself; he decides to face his problems head on, and that's where they stand when they finally meet and seem to resolve their issues.

The author's notes are SO distracting, please, please, please stop using them so much; I really, REALLY appreciate the translation, but if people can't even understand a basic convo, that's their problem... or they can ask in the comments. 9/10 people will understand the convo abt the cemetary w/o the authors notes....
I might just stick to insta for the translations, or even just read the raws, bc my god they break the entire flow of the story. /sigh

Some people are deadass stupid sometimes so it's nice that there are translator notes. Maybe making the font smaller would help? That way they're not obtrusive.

No, for me of course i would know what they meant. But if the translator notes is explaining i dont mind because i really want to know specifically

for me they're size is good I have visions problems so it's perfect for me and I really appreciate they're notes (although it seems obvious to me it helps a lot of people especially the ones that are begging to read these of stories/book)

I really, really appreciate the translator picking this up, but all the little additional author's notes scattered in the pages is really unneeded and distracting.... people can typically understand what's going on without them, unless it's a specific adage or something that is hard to translate.
Not "he randomly changes the subject".

    Jimeva August 8, 2019 7:19 pm

Trust me i do understand you but when I don’t add them people complain they don’t understand so i was just like if you want me to explain the story for you here you go. But now you want see them much in the future I promise. And about the he changed the subject randomly i added it on purpose bcz if I didn’t they will start the saying of oh yeah the translations are bad cz the translator is just making their own story. Guys i swear when stuff is done by me there’s so much going on behind the scenes that i had to deal with so that I always find a way to make everyone happy.

I reread this manga a few times each year, and have been for many years (since maybe 2012...?).
This will ALWAY be one of my favourite manga (both this and it's prequel); it portrays a very mature and realistic love scenario, and all the the characters are flawed to a fault, making them more likable and believable. I just really adore the complexity of the emotions and desires between Imagase and Kyouichi.
I genuinely dont think you can get the most out of this manga in one go, rereading it give the reader and opportunity to really delve into the dialogue that is said and find the nuances of how each of the characters are feeling at the time.

Unlike most manga Ive read, this one has a lot of unspoken words conveyed more through action.

Came back for another re-read and god, the same line always has the biggest impact on me:
When Tamaki tells Kyouichi that his love is unrequited.

The entire series it's portrayed as if Imagase is the one with an unrequited love, but really both of their forms of love are unrequited in one way or another.

This story really is an example of how people express love differently, making partners that do love each other feels unloved/that their love isn't returned. Imagase's love is very verbal and outright, whereas Kyouichi tends to express his love through actions and gestures.

Prequel? What is the name of the prequel, please.

I prefer reading on this website (as I dont use my phone for manga much, if at all), and I really detest the romanticized named of the characters...
