He has prosapagnosia (can't spell it, apparently) and can't identify people by their face. That makes it hard to relate to anyone. He hasn't had the time to try to see if he can remember enough about him to identify him in a line up. At least the coworker who wants to be his friend picked up he should have his name tag on so he can be identified.
It hasn't hit the alpha yet what this really means from a social aspect. The anxiety he feels about not being able to identify him if he's with people the same height or while he's sitting down. The inability to really tell him he looks pretty. The alpha is just trying to lock him down. He hasn't had the time to understand him beyond his own perception.
