Krueger actually develops feelings for Garam and they play a duet, which Garam hides from the professor. The professor finds out and goes to see them perform and gets insanely jealous because it looked like Garam was enjoying himself too much. He keeps being jealous of Krueger even when they hang out as friends. They also also meet Compton, the first of the professor's disciples, and Garam manages to win him over (in a convoluted way but anyways it's worth it) and the professor doesn't like him hugging Compton at the end of performances or when they say goodbye at the airport. Miss Claren also kind of catches on their relationship (I like that she doesn't get upset over it, she only cares about the professor's performance) but the professor tries to deny it so she asks him whether it'd be fine to sleep with Garam for fun if they're not involved that way and he immediately snaps at her saying absolutely not. Anyways once the professor accepts his desire and then his feelings for Garam he unleashes his full jealousy and possessiveness so you've got that to look forward to!

I actually really enjoyed it. I loved Garam taking steps away from Heejae professionally so he wouldn't always be influenced by his decisions. The "away from New York arc" started with Garam saying their souls are different, and then it showed that Garam was ultimately a perfect fit for the professor BECAUSE their souls are so different; it contrasted Compton, who I'd say holds the most hate for Heejae out of the 3 disciples, because Compton has a similar soul to the professor, so they could have never gotten along. It was a bit uncomfortable how Heejae had to talk shit about Garam in front of him, but then it was contrasted by Heejae wanting to do right by Garam after his revelation in New York 2 months into Garam's absence, when he realises that he misses Garam deeply and he wants to do right by him, becoming much gentler and open emotionally with him, doing small gestures and going along with him. Most importantly, during this period Heejae does the most loving thing ever and composes a piece especially dedicated to Garam and how much he misses him, which I still costantly think about and I'm pretty sure won't be topped in anything I'll read ever again. Maybe I'm just too HeejaexGaram pilled because despite Compton being a creepy freak most times I think it was the climax of their relationship so I really enjoyed it.

I keep thinking of more stuff to say about this arc, but I also liked about the subtle public signs of Heejae missing Garam like asking Maria to make him ramen because he remembers eating it with Garam, or going to meet Talinski wearing the tie Garam gifted him for Christmas, all while saying the opposite with his mouth I think Garam too, through Compton's hate, gets to know the professor better, that he's not a good person and has hurt people in ways he'll never know. Ultimately I think that's what brings him to accept him wholly, hate and loneliness, and gives him the idea of dedicating the Rachmaninoff concerto n.3 to taming his loneliness and hate. I could write essays about them

i loved it too- but what bugged me is that, Compton asked Garam to sleep with him, not only that- each words he said, was so fucking true that- i almost started wanting to take compton's side- confusion- even i started getting confused- and Heejae's guilt- that almost took the shape of garam- whispering to him- that "the sword will forever remain solitary", i was going more and more crazy on each chapter till heejae came to london to garam. I won't say much as people might take it as spoilers. But I must, after reading so many crazy as dialogues in each chapter, i am officially fluent in Korean, thanks to it.

I definitely get what you mean and I think Compton was right to feel and say what he did, because in his mind he was trying to save Garam from his own fate. His experience highlights the most violent side of Heejae yet imo so I found his writing good enough that I didn't even resent him for trying to sabotage Heejae's career and reputation. At the same time I think that the sense of confusion he instills in Garam and the reader is because he's too similar to the professor in some ways; his direction isn't always clear and, having always been a genius, he can't put himself in the shoes of someone else but is always basing his opinion on his own lived experiences. He can't believe anyone would be able to truly like the professor, so I'm pretty sure he asked Garam to sleep with him only because he thinks Garam is clinging to Heejae out of physical loneliness, so tbh I didn't think much of it because it seemed like he wouldn't force him into doing anything (though sometimes I was afraid he was spiking the wine )

Idk, i can see where you're coming from, but I disagree to an extent. In my opinion Garam knows that what Compton said is true, but Compton doesn't have the full picture of Heejae that Garam has, because the easiest way to learn under the professor was hate and that's what Compton stopped at, while Garam "parried" the knife Heejae pointed at him and tried to understand him above hate. I think they're both right in their own way, Garam just has a bigger picture

Our handsome brother did have some ulterior motives in his pocket. I don't think so, Garam thought of it that way- cuz he did say "just when I became certain of my feelings, right then, i am confused all over again, sensing the difference in the colour of our souls and sound, maybe Mr Compton was right", infact- if you ask me, garam only got to know about the prof's other side truly, when prof adored him in bed, and told him about all the embarrasing line. Garam didn't see the prof diff from what Compton saw, he accepted the prof as a blade and started looking within it, using his sound- convincing himself, that the roughness, heejae gave him was the most intense and certain affection heejae could ever give anyone. The blade was still sharp when Garam accepted Heejae, it was Garam's affection and true love that dulled it over time. And Heejae knew it before Garam did- and for the first time he adored Garam in bed (Garam liked it so much he ended up squirting- lol)
