Can someone explain why this is so harmful/disrespectful? I know the basics of went down during the american civil war and the atrocities that happened during slavery but from what I do understand a portion of white people along with black people fought against those who wanted to continue slavery. So the MC coming back and letting them go tracks although yeah I think reading everyone's comments it could have been better handled? I thought the way the horsemen came and said your "slave" sounded kinda sarcastic? Correct me if I am wrong I just wanna understand. Is the fact that a sensitive historical event is being used in a bl is what makes it disrespectful? Or the way it was used in a kind blaisé way?
it is a sensitive subject more so one where jaxx needs to de extensive research to write the theming because even within the u.s many schools teach the civil war differently like for example the lost cause theory. this theory is a pseudo-historical one and many teacher out there would teach it as something factual. if you have twitter i recommend reading ‘splover1863’ debrief on the pre release. they go really deep into detail about everything.
To both questions it’s a yes.
The problem is the author is using traumatic history as a light background setting as well as a tool to make mc look good. This history is not about white people and will never be about white people. To make it appear as such is disrespectful to those who actually suffered for a century.
Do you think that because this is just the first chapter the author might delve into it more?
