I’d read the comments on this for a while before starting. This was nowhere near as frustrating a read for me as some others. Rather, at least the conflict in this story makes sense. The ML was trash from the beginning. The MC can’t leave because serious money/family/housing reasons.
The ML is basically paying the MC to be a s*x worker, but the MC isn’t experienced, so he struggles and the ML is a nightmare client. The situation is toxic, but the ML never lies about his intentions and is consistent (kind of acts like he’s on the spectrum). He’s single minded, not good with paying attention to the priorities of others, and others don’t/can’t set boundaries with him which makes that worse. He’s trash but predictable and doesn’t go out of his was to find new ways to torment the MC. I understand how the MC would come to like him given his emotional state.
The MC is overwhelmed and leaves pretty quickly given the circumstances. He had a good job, debts paid, a sock grandma (who I cried for), and stable housing. He left once his grandma died and the ML didn’t even trust him for the ONE THING HE WAS PAYING HIM FOR. I get it.
Summary: this is normal toxic. I could see a friend in their 20’s in this type of relationship. We’d all talk about it as we commiserate in our 30’s about our less than stunner exes.

Finally, someone who understands the story.
