It really depends if you want spoiler or not because raga happens in about a certain time in passion. You would get pretty confused on why this or that happened but I'd recommend to atleast read passion first so you would better understand the story!:)

I read raga first and then passion just to see xinlu there, and it's not too confusing for me. Basically, the story of Xinlu and Yuri in Raga without any connection to Passion starts from chapter 20. But at the beginning of Raga, everything is explained from Yuri's point of view, so even without reading Passion everything shouldn't be too confusing.

I think I decided that I would read at least a little more of passion before starting raga cuz why not. I already started so might well catch up a little bit at least. I think yuri is also introduced in passion?? So I'll maybe read until I get a hold on xinlu's and yuri's relationship in passion. Thanks a lot! Also based on passion's design of xinlu when I heard he had his own manhwa I thought he would be the bottom cuz he looked kind of like a twink in passion.... here his whole build looked super different lmao. and it looks like he's the top. I was taken aback for a sec. Like I knew of twinkification but this was the opposite to me.

Yeah, honestly, I also think Xinlu in Passion and RAGA feels like two completely different characters. In the beginning, the author created Xinlu mainly to bring iltae together, which is why I don’t really understand why so many people hate Xinlu when his character was literally created for the sake of iltae being together.

Passion also has another series called Passion: Diaphonic Symphonia, and there will be another couple in that story. After finishing Passion: Diaphonic Symphonia, Yuuji-nim kept thinking about Xinlu and eventually started writing RAGA as a kind of healing story for herself, since RAGA has a much calmer and more peaceful atmosphere compared to the other Passion series.

Even though, chronologically, RAGA takes place after the current Passion story, RAGA was actually the last Passion series Yuuji-nim wrote. She also said that when she was writing RAGA, everything just flowed naturally.

I got this information from someone who translated Yuuji-nim’s comments in the printed RAGA book.

In appearance and from what personalities I could gauge from what i read in passion and the album pics on tops for raga.... I was like... "U cannot convince me that these are the ame person wtf" Like literal twink vs twunk difference in these 2 characters I don't know too much about raga xinlu's personality to compare them but I guess I'll see when I read it.

I was also kind of confused about everyone hating xinlu too... Like I'm sure he does some fucked stuff too, I haven't gotten that far so maybe I'll be the same after a while who know. And it is kinda obvious he is meant to be a means to an end for iltae just from what i've read of passion. But for some reason I still quite liked his character. Which is what made me interested in raga in the first place.

yeah from the synopsis and comments I could tell that raga took either like in the middle of passion or else after passion. Had no idea about the second novel though will definitely read that like maybe after catching up on the manhwas lol, doesn't look like there is a manhwa for that though. (Seems kind of strange to adapt the first and third books into manhwa but not the second one).

I was definitely looking forward to raga more cuz of the calm serene vibe i got from the album pics. Lowkey am tempted to just start this right now but I gotta control myself haha.

Welp came for an update to say i caught up with both manhwa and am reading the novel for raga.. right now and am loving it. I'll read the other novels when I'm done with raga (weird reading oorder I am following but idc) Now everything with xinlu and the stories finally make sense to me hahal Oh and personally I like raga better. I think it's cuz I identify with Yuri so much and ironically ended up really liking xinlu from the first time I saw him in passion... Like literaly the first panel. Idk why no matter how twisted he is I still like him.

From what I've seen there are 3 novels
1. Passion (ilay and tae)
2. Passion: Diaphonic Symphonia (another couple don't know much abt this one yet)
3. Passion:Rage (Xinlu and Yuri)

I'm like you except Yuri caught my eye in Passion then months later I found out he has his own story with Xinlu and was like YAY lol. I rly like the soft and melancholic vibes of Raga much better too, and the art is to die for.

season 3 actually just came out today and as someone who finished the novel I'm vibrating with excitement. I can't wait for when Xinlu realizes how much he loves Yuri and BEGS lol.

Yuri is such a sweetheart isn't he?? I loved him immediately when he was introduced in passion too. But since he was introduced much later ig xinlu was the one who introduced me to raga lol even though I lowkey related with yuri A LOT. I found it kind of funny that I ended up liking xinlu almost the same way yuri did. Both yuris and xinlus designs are just so clean to me don't get me started on late passion xinlu he just mogs everyone with his batman ass trenchcoat lol

The artstyle really suites these two. The softer like.. tranquil color palette and the water... Actually makes wanna drink it looks yummy I can get why yuri likes being in the water so much haha. In vibes and art they really blew it out of the park fr it suites yuri's personality so much too.

I also finished the novel like... Maybe here days ago?? And goddd I can't wait till this manhwa adapation is finished I am dying to see more of xinlu yearning and begging for yuris affection lmao it's so good. (Those last two chapters where xinlu talks abt how much he loves yuri T_T it was to die for)

Yuri is exactly the type of MC I like in a story: soft elegant yet mature and he yearns but in such a unintrusive almost pitiful way, I feel for him so bad. especially when Xinlu was on his "charity work" nonsense like omgggg I'm ngl I was whatever on Xinlu at first (when he smashed Yuri's head on the table I was raging lmao Yuri is too forgiving honestly!!). it wasn't until Xinlu started going all "are you mad at me Mr. Gable :( don't be mad :(" every few seconds that I was like, ok maybe you're starting to become redeemable lol.

the artstyle is beautiful I take 10secs to stare at every single panel as I read. it suits Yuri's pov perfectly. I saw in an earlier cmnt you can't reconcile Xinlu of Passion to Xinlu of Raga and it's cuz Xinlu in Passion is told thru Taeui's pov where he was initially biased and saw Xinlu as a twink thru rose-tinted glasses. then when he started to fall for Ilay he saw Xinlu more true to real life so Xinlu looks more like Raga, which is what he actually looks like. it's hilarious but Taeui did Xinlu so dirty at the beginning lol.

and omg you can discuss Raga with me all you want! it's my 2nd fave manhwa of all time and I'm a new manhwa reader (only started reading this summer) so I don't have any friends to gush to so I just comment randomly hoping to talk to fellow readers haha. I love Raga so much I actually bought the official Korean version of chapter 45 cuz I can't wait. the chapter was soooo gorgeous I'm so glad Alter is the artist for Raga. did you notice how they even added new scenes not in the novel like chapter 44? I hope it happens again this season cuz the novel is too short imo compared to other Passion novels T__T

Yes yes yes yuri's silent but like mature affection was so sweet. I loved that huge difference between xinlu's and yuri's type of love. I think closest comparision I could make is xie lian from tgcf (if u have read it if u haven't I'm so sorry but I also recommend it!) Both were like relatively quieter characters compared to the more spunky mc's of the other stories.

Bruh the non con scene in the beginning was NOT NEEDED AT ALL LIKE I'm sure we could've done something with yuri consenting like come on yuuji. I felt so sad when yuri's head got slammed into the table too!! And that charity case bs ughhhh xinlu dude stop lying to urself that it was "charity work" ffs like the crashout scenes in the hospital I didn't think too much of it cuz like xinlu was kinda valid with his crashout lmao not justifying anything but also it is understandable. But the charity work... And the head smashing i that was the first time I wanted to give xinlu a punch (just a little slap to bring him to senses but if I did that he would probably take out my eyes so I'll pass ugh)

When I think about it xinlu didn't even have a really big redemption arc lol he changes his attitude to yuri relatively early but idk the transition from "don't u dare look at me" and "stand in blind spot" to "oh I couldn't see u at the party I was looking for you please be in my line of sight mr gable...." And "are u angry mr gable? Please don't be angry" for the smallest thing my heart was like ughhhhh omg I can't take it pleaseeeeeee what the hell how did he become so cute to him??

No really the art is just so amazing isn't it?? I've been taking screenshots of almost every panel. If there is ever a physical version of this manhwa I will actually buy it it's so beautiful.

I think I had also mentioned in the beginning of this comment thread that yes xinlu is the one who introduced me to raga but what immediately made so interested in reading raga was that passion xinlu (I had read like 20 chapters of passion at the time so I had only seen taeui's twink version) and raga were so different i was like WHO IS THAT GUY??? Like taeui seeing xinlu as a twink through rose tinted glasses and seeing his like true physique and character after he gets disillusioned. It makes so much sense how did I not think of that? I thought it was like sure maybe he did actually look like that with a baby face and also a little exaggerated from taeui's pov, but like grew even into his current build since I thought that passion took place within the span of a year or two but I was thinking a growth spurt that big in ur 20s?? Ughh god thank uuu I've been dying to talk to someone abt raga too cuz I know like 3 people who read manhwa but I can't discuss this with anyone. And since I read the manhwa and novel I've been so obsessed and going back and reading some parts! I was also so hooked to the point where I looked for more chapter and was able to read till like chapter 43 in English. And yes they added more intimate scenes I was so suprised! Like in the novel thought the translators might have skipped a scene cuz it was such big cut from being in bed and implying something happened to the next day where yuri is looking at the calender. I ate every crumb though I was lowkey kind of sad with how they kinda just ended with implying something in the novel so seeing those new added scenes made me appreciate alter even more. I'd also love more added bonus scenes I was lowkey crashing out that raga was so short compared to passion (I haven't read the full novels for passion and dia sym yet but I know they have like five volumes with side stories as a seperate book while raga has only 2 volumes like we were ROBBED I TELL U I NEEDED MOREE)

It does makes sense too though like there isn't too much conflict in yuri's and xinlu's relationship or any external conflict like... Idk bombing other countries and whatever incest bs is going on in dia sym. And it is a more self contained story like after the kidnapping xinlu and Yuri just do their own thing lol but it still felt so short. I didn't know there were raws till chapter 45 though I gotta check that out.

I haven't read TCGF I only dipped my toes into manhwa a few months ago and haven't tried manhua yet haha, but the contrast between Xinlu and Yuri's type of love is so opposite, even more than Iltae's or couples from other stories it rly stands out. Yuri's way of loving (quietly, selflessly, never asking to be requited) is so rare in stories in general (and irl too) that's why I love him so much ;~~; his love reminds me of shoujo manga's fmcs lol idk if you heard of Strobe Edge but the way the mc loves there is exactly like Yuri

the way Yuri just like. brushed it off and felt happy Xinlu was worried about him after getting his head smashed in made me scream into the void ngl like Yuri you're too nice!! ToT the reason Xinlu barely got a redemption arc is cuz it's Yuri, he's just too forgiving. did you notice he just lets Xinlu do whatever he wants to him and only gets mad/disapproves if Xinlu hurt other people? but if Xinlu hurts YURI himself, he just lets it go. I'm like tho I guess I'm glad that Xinlu learned to mature himself and tried to change to fit to Yuri more (hence his constant "are you mad?"). Yuri rly did tame the wild cat that is Xinlu without explicitly taming lol, the wild cat slowly learned to be domesticated himself~

ya iirc Taeui was a top at start of Passion? and he saw Xinlu as this cute uwu bottom ig lmao. not just that, Xinlu in Taeui's filter had BROWN HAIR!! like not only did u twinkify him you changed his hair color too lmao. later Passion, Xinlu did look quite hot tho cuz Taeui was no longer interested in him lol. it must've been a big shock to you as an early-Passion reader!

but ya what I hear is Yuuji the author, in her notes, she said she wrote Passion then Diasim with the 2nd couple (which is a whole can of worms. I haven't read the novel but I hear they're even more fcked up than Iltae, like the Richard dude is BAD lol) then I guess after all that it was quite draining for her cuz the stories were so toxic, so she wrote a more fluffy story with Raga aka 3rd book. and I'm happy it's fluffy but that's why it's so short Yuri didn't endure half the fcked up things Taeui and Christoph went thru so idk if I should be happy or sad due to this lol. I guess Xinlu is quite tame as far as Yuuji's tops go lmao.

Oh don't worry abt tgcf (there is a mnhwa and an anime but it is based on a novel series too. It's one of my favs and i feel the main couple has a similar vibe to xinlu yuri, not too much but there are some similarities). I have read a lot of manga and manhwa for a while but I'll be honest I've dipped my toes in into reading yaoi since maybe... last year? Like consistently at least before that I used to mainly shounen ai or shoujo ai or like other genres lmao. And now I have no idea what happened here I am.

Lowkey though I really REALLy relate to yuri quite a bit, I think it's cuz I'm asexual but I could totally understand where he was coming from with his love towards xinlu in the beginning. That feeling of like ohhhh he is so pretty like aesthetically but not in a sexual or romantic way. (the whole pretty thing in the ocean thing I also really like swimming so that was there too. I'm realizing again just how his whole character concept is kind of catered to me lmao I had no chance from the beginning of course I was gonna love yuri.) With how he says he is okay with looking and not expecting anything at all from xinlu. I think ur beautiful, does that mean I want to have sex with you? Not really my biggest priority for me just looking is enough lmao

Then I see the album and yup like u said I was so shocked and confused. First xinlu didn't not look like the xinlu i had known lmao The eye colors were different (which make sense now but then I was like huhhhhh??????) he looked more muscular (I think this is also tae's pov fault lol) and I saw that he was the top. That is what shocked me the most cuz I had literally just seen give a bj and be a bottom for ilay. I was oh is he a switch?? But then I remember switches don't exist in manhwa lmao there is only top bottom and no inbetween.

And yeah i made this post becuz I became so curious I wanted to read this as soon as possible but in the end I caught up with the passion manhua and then read this lol good thing I did or else I wouldn't have known much. Taeui really just imagined some other random dude and called him xinlu lol that's how different the 2 xinlus were to me.

Idk but the numbering was there till 43 and was a little weird there. So I'd love to read chapter 44 too I'm gonna searching for it now haha.
