I have read the novel and its funny to me how ian is criticizing austen’s protagonists talking about them as flawed and fools when it comes to love WHEN HE HIMSELF (SPOILER) . . . . . . . . . . . Will show how much of a fool he is when it comes to obtaining Laura’s love and hand in marriage when she refused him. He was like crying in her lap and shit talking about how he will kill himself lol. Some people criticize this as him being a red flag but i like that he was flawed and not this perfect gentleman that we have seen so far. He KNEW that even if he told laura he will kill himself if she didnt marry him she is not the type of foolish woman who would accept his proposal but he did it anyway because he was so desperate to not let her go. And Laura because of her past trauma was too hard on herself and insists on telling him that she never loved him even though she knows its not true and that it will hurt Ian in the process
