I have not survived 15 years reading yaoi for a manga to be cancelled like this. There are more problematic mangas out there full of shit.I understand the issue but lets get real, this was going to be probably a good plot manga w awesome art and in a historic setting for fucks sake and look what u have done TRAGIC
Stop groveling over a cancelled manhwa (rightfully so), because atp this is just giving fetishizing. Honestly be glad the author took accountability and cancelled this and recognized their own ignorance because what was the thought process while serializing this? Slave x owner, really? And mind you, two things can be true at once. YES there are other horrible manhwas out there but YES this one by JAXX is very clearly problematic and blatantly racist. The manhwa's theme settings does not change the fact that the relationship dynamic is harmful, (opressed x opressor) because no amount of good writing will ever erase the years of torture, racism, and discrimination that slaves went through that still very much bleeds through the present time.

I feel like it could've been so good man. Honestly so dissapointed, we didn't even get past episode one?! I wish people could of held their judgements until at least the first few episodes which usually get released in bulk for new stories. And the way people are just throwing around accusations of racism for people making logical arguments in the comment sections here is crazy lol.
A whole lot nothing to say you're probably racist. Also blindly worshiping authors is cultists behavior PandaD
a whole lot of nothing to call it worshiping an author. It's not inherently racist to tell a fictional story set during a period of slavery. Why cancel the entire story when you could correct and inform the author, so they can correct the story/language used instead.

Nobody said it's inherently racist to tell a story set during slavery. The problem is how the story is told. When your protagonist is a slave owner's son who's portrayed as "one of the good ones," loses his wealth, frees his slave (not really cuz the way he did it in this story is not how slave are actually legally freed) and then gets treated like a saint by the very people his family enslaved, you're not really telling a story about slavery. You're telling a story about how noble a white character is. The issue is that the enslaved characters seem to exist mainly to validate the white protagonist's morality and nobody is obligated to "correct and inform" an author before criticizing their work. Readers are allowed to say a story is poorly written, historically tone-deaf, or built on racist tropes. Criticism isn't cancellation the author herself CHOSE to cancel it after hearing the criticism.

Exactly my thoughts So we can never have a historic BL? And it even seemed to be accurate, she seemed to have done research We don’t even know more about that character who showed up for a frame and already judging? This is embarassing for people

Not sure if you guys've read more of the chapters than I have, but where is the white guy being treated as a saint by the enslaved men? The story literally has one chapter, the story hasn't even begun or been told in any sort of way to give judgement of how the author writes (or would write) these difficult topics.
Of course we can talk about the fetishization of the master/slave relationship, being put in this very sore historical topic. And maybe I am desensitized by having grown up reading fanfics, but I am of the belief of "don't like, don't read", but in the realm of yaoi and BL... fetishization comes with the territory. Especially BL with smut. Like every title from this author.

Although yes I do very much believe in "don't like, don't read" when it comes to being a fujoshi, do understand that when writing about a topic like this, it is bound to have some criticism. This isn't your average non-con or other dubious abnormal kinky shit, the settings of the manhwa takes place in a real place, and a real period of time in history. And also yes I do understand the fact that historic-based manhwas do infact exist and can be done right when depicted well, this manhwa isn't really the genre nor the era to be mixed together and come out ro be good.
Because with the fact that both character's dynamics is already harmful as is, making it a yaoi could make it seem trivial when we know for a fact that it isn't, considering the fact that it resulted in systemic dehumanization across to all people of color. And I mean let's face it, we knowwww how much the community loves to water down psychological tropes in bl manhwas what more a manhwa where the settings takes place in the 1800s? It doesn't matter to them if they don't like it, because people will still infact read it.
So what I'm trying to say is that writing about a sensitive topic is problematically contraversial and can inevitably cause harmful rhetoric if not heeded. So it's better for the author to learn to rake accountability and I hope people stop defending them so much

Racist? How? Does anyone in this comment section even know the definition of racism? And insensitive? Bro this is yaoi? I could pick out like 10 manhwas in weekly release that are so diabolically insensitive with all the rape and sinister shite and no one bats an eye, so for you to call it insensitive based on one episode is actually hilarious. How about in order to explore certain historical settings accurately in a story you have to sometimes portray parts of that time period that are difficult to digest because that's literally how history worked, and the story is confronting it head-on instead of pretending it didn't exist.
It's set right after the Civil War. Union vet MC comes home to dead family, frees every slave on the Illinois ranch in episode 1, and gives them most of his money. Boom—actual abolition on panel?!
That's not "white savior" or racist, you clowns—it's the exact opposite. He bankrupts himself doing the right thing immediately. Showing real post-war mess isn't endorsing shit; it's not turning history into your rainbow therapy fanfic safe space.
The mob that axed it after **one episode** is comedy gold. Y'all slurp graphic noncon, grooming, slavery harems, and demonic rape like it's gourmet "peak fiction " every week, but historical context + instant freeing makes you melt down? Touch grass, read a damn history book, and drop the selective pearl-clutching routine. If you only want zero-edge modern fluff, stick to that. Stop canceling ambitious stories just because reality hurts your delicate vibes. Pathetic.

What I am saying is that your identity doesn't magically make the criticism disappear. "The MC frees the slaves in episode one" is exactly part of the criticism. Framing a slave owner's son as the moral center because he does the bare minimum of freeing people his family enslaved is a classic white savior setup. That's the issue. And please stop pretending criticism is "mob canceling." The author herself decided to stop the series after reflecting on the feedback and saying she wasn't confident she could handle the subject with the sensitivity it deserved. Nobody dragged her out of her house and forced her to quit. And honestly stop pretending to be black
