From what I've gathered it's in reference to the prequel novel about Lyle's brother and his husband. I've read that Ash used to have a crush on the husband and Lyle thought Ash was coming in between his brother's relationship, thus > bad first impression
I could be wrong tho'! I haven't read the prequel novel (yet, I would like to if I find it)
