“Fiction” is a way for people to explore complicated moral questions without those situations actually happening to them. With that being said, everyone is entitled to their own opinions and interpretations of a fictional story.
However, you can enjoy a story featuring morally questionable characters without endorsing their behavior in real life. Enjoying a fictional character doesn’t automatically mean you condone their actions, just as criticizing a character doesn’t mean everyone else has to interpret the story the same way you do.
There’s a difference between discussing the morality of a character’s actions and judging people for how they engage with fiction.
Yk what's crazy? I've always seen this type of side on every com involve with rape and stuff elements, it's like the balance in yin and yang, but it is also a way for the yin to justify their actions, they use it to feel better about themselves when they should me more concerned about the important stuff about them, and that's why the internet is free
Yup, same way some people argue against games with guns or killing because they believe it directly leads to violence irl.
If you're actually media literate you should be able to compartmentalize your reaction to fictional narratives and your beliefs irl. It's totally fine to criticize these works but there's a difference between criticizing the plot/character because it's bad writing/you don't like them vs trying to virtue signal by shaming others for liking tropes/characters that go against your moral compass. Most of us know the characters are bad people doing bad things, but at the end of the day this is tagged Boy's Love and the plot will find a way to tie that aspect back in even if it doesn't make sense irl. If you can't come to terms with that then these stories aren't for you and you're better off reading wholesome, slice of life stories like Our Sunny Days.
Btw virtue signaling on an illegal site of full of fictional porny cartoons is... a choice. Though I guess it does bring in a lot more engagment during hiatus week ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

I mean that’s the problem, realistically, you can’t assume people’s motives without evidence. Fiction can influence people, sure, but enjoying a fictional scenario isn’t, by itself, proof of real world endorsement.
It’s the internet, we’ll never know what someone believes or does irl.
Also, assuming someone is defending fiction to justify their own behavior without evidence is still a form of judgment, which is a tad ironic considering the point you’re making

Yes, yes, yes! I agree with this, especially the distinction between criticizing a story and shaming people for enjoying it.
People can have genuine concerns about how certain themes are portrayed without judging everyone who enjoys them.
It literally just comes down to separating criticism of the content from assumptions about the audience’s character or motives. And the end lol, definitely some choice!! (≧∀≦)

Dang made all that and still missed the point, was it even that hard to Identify that the problem was this people know the fact that this contains 'that' element, but still turned a blind eye and tried to eradicate it off? It's literally all over the com sec rn, most people where aware, most of them got informed, and yet they still choose to push it off as some silly antics, and try to make it seem like unnecessary, because, they choosed to do that. Like y'all this has got to be ragebait atp. Like tf are y'all talking about audience preference, when the problem was the audience failing and choosing to not acknowledge that this contains 'that' like what any other manhwa have. I mean I get the whole point about criticizing the audience about their taste, but y'all really ignored what's actually concerning and pointed out the obvious. It's like both of you reached flow state together, did you guys even analyze all the comments and other opinions or did y'all just reached to your conclusions.
It is genuinely beyond disgusting now that the two of you mentioned that these audience were aware of what they're doing. And yet they still chose to not acknowledge the crime here. Don't even get me started on defending the jingi guy or something for having a bad childhood and making me tweak tf to not be rough of him, like that mf choose to do that. And that is what they're defending and choosing to turn a blind eye to.
I mean to be fair, I do read this kind of stuff too mostly for the smut and a way to turn my brains off and detached from the overwhelming world. But did y'all see me lick some ass and try to justify something that isn't justifiable? The problem is they're aware and choose to sugar coat and hide it under the rug, now that is what's actually concerning.
Like whenever I see a manhwa that's just like this, I'd expect the com sec to be like "oh his bad, but I'm only here for the smut and comedies, so who cares?" But instead it was 'this person is a rapist' and 99% of the readers here went "oh his not, he had a rough childhood don't be so rough on him, the uke started it for making a deal" that's what genuinely made some people tweak.
And I guess just like every other complainer they thought that it should be like that instead of the latter, because the latter is by far so fucking crazy...
And geez why y'all acting like a moral person is someone that's a virgin and saint, like there's literally no one like that. It's actually common for people who knows stuff about those ethics and shit to be in this website and other web that's just like this, I guess you could say it's their entertainment,

So yeah entertainment, there's actually more of those people in here since this and like any other website is free, so why'd y'all even expect that only a number of weirdos or like twisted peeps are the only that that can access this site? It's like denying them off their entertainment or denying their form of relaxation. There is sooo much of those people in here, and EVEN in those super dark tagged manhwas, there lurking. And yet, you don't see them justifying something unmoral do you? I mean even a normal person like a super normal person, if that person reads this and let's say that they enjoyed it, you don't see them accepting and embracing and defending the fact that the character that they enjoyed did something bad right? This is what I'm talking about, like y'all missed it, I'm not talking about those difference between this at that, and why me as a moral person even clicking and reading this, I'm talking about the people who defends a crime with they're whole life on the line just for some dark and twisted guilty pleasure
Yup, same way some people argue against games with guns or killing because they believe it directly leads to violence irl. If you're actually media literate you should be able to compartmentalize your reaction ... anomarcaly
That's fucking disgusting, you literally admitted that most of y'all enjoyed this and YET still chose to side with the people who actually defend and justify a bad person. I mean I am guilty too for reading this for the smut and comedic shit, but you don't see me defending and turning a blind eye to something twisted and the obvious do you? And the fact that they're aware and choose to turn a blind eye to it and try to slick butt if off the rug...... Beyond words fuck it.
And I wasn't even signaling virtue, it was literally fucking disgusting and TRUE that those people failed to acknowledge a crime, they were even embracing it, that's concerning and crazy asf, I'd be so fucking scared if I were to met one of them irl id shot myself, intead of trying to listen to them glorifying an absolute fuck when they're actually the threag. So we’re definitely talking about two different things here. My original comment wasn’t about Jingi, the plot, or whether any specific character’s actions were justified.
It was a general statement in response to people shaming others simply for continuing to read the manga!
I also agreed with the other commenter, specifically their point about distinguishing criticism of a story from shaming people for enjoying it. That doesn’t mean I think people should defend Jingi’s actions or dismiss the seriousness of what happened in the story. It means I don’t think someone’s enjoyment of a fictional work automatically tells us what they believe or condone in real life.
If someone is specifically defending sexual assault or blaming the victim, then it’s fair to challenge those arguments. That’s different from assuming literally everyone who reads the same manga shares those views. Criticizing what someone actually says is not the same as making assumptions about their character based on the media they consume.
Your concern main about readers excusing Jingi’s actions is a totally separate point from what I was addressing.
Both things can be true: people can rightfully criticize harmful interpretations of a story, and people can also be unfairly judged simply for reading it.
My comment was about the latter, not an attempt to excuse the former.
That's fucking disgusting, you literally admitted that most of y'all enjoyed this and YET still chose to side with the people who actually defend and justify a bad person. I mean I am guilty too for reading thi... Missoupotamia
There was nothing in my post indicating I was defending rape apologists?
I'm not speaking on behalf of the people who you believe are "defending rapists" -- my original point was meant to agree with OP, I didn't even read your initial comment lol. There are people who read this (me included) who know these characters are terrible people but are still interested their relevance to the plot as a whole because this is FICTION. Personally I know this is FICTION and would never endorse these behaviors irl.
Now if people are being influenced by these stories so much that they feel like they can defend this kind of behavior in their daily lives or imitate what these characters are doing then those people shouldn't be reading these works in the first place. We can 100% judge them if they admit they're defending/committing these acts irl. However putting blanket shame on anyone's personal beliefs because they have a POV you don't agree with in the context of a fictional story is plain virtue signaling at best or ragebaiting at worse.
If we can't use fiction to explore taboo or sensitive topics without being shamed for it then what other avenue is there? There's so much controversial, fictional literature out there that end up in school reading lists because those books force you to critically think about the plot and characters as a whole despite including topics that you otherwise wouldn't engage with or defend irl.
Again, I'm not defending actual irl rape apologists who may or may not be lurking in these comments, but usually when people end up liking or sympathizing with characters who do bad things it's because AUTHORS intentionally steer it that way using backstory, interpersonal relationships, and other common literary devices. That's how fictional stories work. Whether that's good or bad writing...now that's something people should be free to discuss at length.
In the context of Slammer Dogs the author is clearly steering the plot to show redemption or evoke sympathy for both brothers despite their past behaviors because that's what a lot of BL authors do in these types of works to justify a 'good' ending. People sympathize with Heonjae because the author is putting him in a positive light with the little brother. People sympathize with Jingi because the author keeps reminding us about his revenge motivations and his evolving relationship with Myeongil. Does this absolve them of their past actions and make them good people? Of course not, but we as readers should know that this is a fictional scenario and the author is using these plot devices to keep the story going. Sure it'd be great for the brothers to sit down with Myeongil and acknowledge + apologize for what they've done and be punished for it accordingly by the law (and maybe that could still happen), but that's not where the plot is going right now.
So rather than judging the people who are picking up what the author's putting down how about criticizing the writing instead if you don't agree with it? Or support works that align better to your beliefs? Or, like you said, just turn off your brain and goon to the story without getting involved in the comments. Nothing worse than smut gooners who also come into the comments to throw rape apologist accusations left and right when people try to share their interpetation of plot/characters.
Anyways I didn't mean to write a whole dissertation but that's all I'm gonna say on this. Feel free to agree, disagree, or refute my points but at the end of the day I'm not here to spend energy arguing about morality in fiction vs real life on an illegal website. I'm here for free fictional pornhwas with the occasional one where I get super invested in plot and characters and just want to read more productive discussions about them that don't involve back and forth attacks on a reader's character. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
