I can't understand the luck thingy. So why did Jay leave? To severe the tie? So then, he left. But it means that Tay will look for him. Misfortune and luck at the same time?
Replying what I can from what I remember of the novel. So, technically, Jay's gift of being a genius comes with extreme bad luck (getting kidnapped, being targeted, etc) but Tay cancels that bad luck by bringing him good luck (Jay would somehow escape the kidnappers unharmed, never getting hurt at all even when people want to harm him). So when bad things are about to happen to Jay, Tay would sometimes feel the need to find Jay as if to help him/cancel that bad luck. The story Jay told him when Tay fell from a tree and they ended up not meeting up at the hospital was Jay thinking that he got kidnapped quite badly because he Tay's good luck did not safe him from those kidnappers.
I read the translated novel and still don't really get how their connection works... Tays simple existence seems to ward of Jays misfortune. At the same time Jay is dependant on Tay since he was born with a sick body, thats also why when Tay gets sick Jay gets really sick but not the other way around.
Since Jay is the genius brother and Tay 'just' the lucky charm, Jay seems to think that Tay hates him for living in his shadows so to say.
I think thats why Jay wanted to 'cut the tie' and take that burden from Tay. Obviously their fate isnt going to change just from wishing it did tho.
Its all very confusing

I've finished reading it. It was a great read!
