Hmmm... although I don't really root for any of the guys, I am starting to see the point in Jung. Even though Seol and Inho seem perfect because of their playful dynamic, Seol and Jung are kinda the contrast? Because even though they don't have the same chemistry, they do have stability in good times, if that makes sense. And yeah, Jung is an ass sometimes, but I think it shows how every person thinks of their perfect SO as something different, and needs different things in relationships...
Okay, I'll get back to HW XD
Nope, nope, nope, so much nope! I usually never judge a manga/manhwa by just one chapter, but this one is an offense to all my years of education. First of all, that is clearly BULIMIA which is totally different than anorexia. You can be bulimic and overweigh, and you can be anorexic and overweight so looks have NOTHING to do with what kind of mental illness you have. Next, a person with BULIMIA would never, ever EVER act like that. A symptom of the illness is that the person doesn't realize they need help AND keeps their problems hidden, instead of telling them to everyone...just...no. This shows how important it is to learn about something before you write about it though, sigh (/TДT)/
?? Ah, okay, so going through healthcare school AND dealing with eating disorders isn't enough knowledge? I'm not saying the terms are important, but if someone is writing about a mental illness it KINDA should be important that they should at least think about the fact that eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of most mental illnesses AND the fact that eating disorders are the third most common cause of death in young females. And, I mean, this story is kinda aimed at that specific group, so the least the author could do is give correct information ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
There's really no need to take this so seriously. It's erotica it wasn't created to educate people or be super realistic. For example, people don't watch the show Grey's Anatomy with expectations of seeing how real doctors behave in hospitals, they watch it for the drama. There's non-fiction for that.
Well, I dare say it's blindingly obvious that the 'healthcare school' and your 'experience' with this disorder is *not* enough. I pity those who have been misguided or misinformed by your limited knowledge. And I am somewhat, to a degree, frightened by the fact that one who has gone to 'healthcare school' can be so adamant in their wrong prognosis. Did you graduate from a nationally recognised medical school, or was it a lesser established 'healthcare' school? Legitimate medical schools are recognised by the Ministry of Health. Either way, you are incorrect, the character has anorexic nervosa (binge-eating/purging type). Should you, or anyone, wish to discredit the latest edition of the DSM-5, be my guest, I would love to see how that would go down with the medical community. However, I imagine this little challenge would be short-lived.
Please stop misinforming others.
Man, you have got it wrong. But it is understandable. This is why I spent 20 mins proving why Anorexia is the correct term so scroll up where I explained.
Have a read if you want to, the topic is "IT IS Anorexia so here is a 101 on Anorexia and Bulimia and evidence why I believe so"
They might have similar symptoms and their diagnosis might be difficult but one isn't over-weight/average weight when they have anorexia...the clear cut symptom of anorexia is being 15% below average BMI
Sometimes it is best to remain silent if your facts aren;t right because facts aren't like opinions. Wrong facts here, you will be putting off people who actually likes the manga
Some places and institution often use different method of diagnosing. My country, for example, have it's own local adaptation of DSM-IVTR and ICD-10 (which, in many ways, differ from it's parents); and it doesn't classify Anorexia into restrictive and binge/purging types. And I've found many independent institution, which is not necessarily professional but is experienced, don't use official classifications either. People who work in healthcare don't necessarily master diagnostic skills; healthcare is a very wide area of expertise after all.
Despite everything tho; I still find it understandable to disagree with the manga when bingeing and purging are then followed with the word anorexia when, though not necessarily wrong, the two behaviors are typically bullimia. I mean, the most common case in anorexia is switching between restricting and bingeing/purging types and not exclusively the latter. The huge weigh loss is the main indication that this is definitely AN type bingeng/purging and not BN; yet the lack of reference to that point made it seems as though the mangaka doesn't get it. Dunno, it's still possible to be both AN and BN IMO. A person with AN won't be easily lured by the promise of erotic food servings after all.
The manga can still be interesting though. I mean, I'm interested on how this'll go. Look at Ten Count - despite the inconsistencies, it is still an interesting piece.
Dear the Lovely A Good Reader,
I’ll begin by saying that I will only be responding to your reply about the story. If I respond to the other topic, which brings up issues on standards and what not, the thread will get off track (plus, I’m not interested in anything unrelated to the story).
I agree with your opinion, that it is understandable for readers to make assumptions or to be driven to their assumptions by what they believe is typical of such and such symptoms, or such and such scenarios. Even I and the other person working on this manhwa had doubts. HOWEVER, we both did our research. Still, I also believe that it is reasonable for readers to question the accuracy of the translation, after all, who am I but a name on a virtual page (plus there were some QC issues). HOWEVER, I do not believe it to be reasonable, nor do I find it praiseworthy, for those who are "in healthcare” but "don’t necessarily master diagnostic skill” to be overly arrogant of their “understanding” and subsequently impart their ignorance onto others.
It is reasonable to doubt the text, yes, I completely agree, but for a healthcare worker to determine the condition depicted can *only* be bulimia nervosa is plain negligence.
"A person with AN won't be easily lured by the promise of erotic food servings after all.” — this is another topic, but I will address it in a disclaimer. Aigh… why must I be so anal-retentive? Aigh…………………...
With Love,
A Person Who Loves Good Readers.
Hmm? Did you help in translating this manga btw? Because honestly, I don't have anything against the translation or the manga. I just think it's interesting to discuss how psychological issues manifest itself in the media. Do understand that I am not trying to be condescending by doing so. But if I happen to come off that way, I'm sorry.
And the negligence part..., well, it is something we have to accept (healthcare issues are complicated). I am also being negligent though; fresh graduates from psychology have no rights to diagnose!! But then again, the discussion is cool. It makes me feel less retarded from reading yaoi so much. Reading porn correlates with the increase of dying brain cells after al (fact).
No, you did not come off condescending at all. You were rather neutral, I thought I was being neutral as well? Did I appear defensive or something? I was only responding to your points~
I also enjoy discussing the human psyche :D, but I feel this is overkill for a manhwa that's not supposed to be heavy. I just had to respond to some comments, really wish I didn't, but I couldn't stop myself because well I'm too tired to type anymore.......
PS: LOL @ last part of your reply
FROM THE FRYING PAN INTO LAVA lol good luck Seoul
(≧∀≦)
Seol* haha thanks autocorrect
