I think what they ment by performance based is whatever talent you have, be it academics or extracurricular activities. If you're an artist, athlete, musician, singer, and maybe smart in certain subjects, then you can maybe do with that. If it's academics, make a problem and solve it perfectly. You just have to do with what you got

He lights the house on fire with himself inside. That’s why he told her he didn’t want her to live just for him and set up a new place for her to move to. Unfortunately, if I remember correctly she ends up killing herself too after she finds out :(
