I think it is largely getting worse due to short form media algorithms trying to radicalise people. Far too many people lack critical thinking skills nowadays; it is causing those who see incidents/people that are incredibly uncommon in real life as the majority, thanks to how frequently it pops up in their feed.

When there're kids/ babies in a story that have completely fucked anatomy, or aren't growing up at a rate that matches the story progression. Sacred serpent's kids for example.
