Kind of a small nitpick but doesn't J naturally have white hair in the books? They even showed him dying it brown in one of the earlier chapters and the first chapter or two showed him blonde when he first got out of the rift. Now the flashbacks show him with brown hair. I'm confused if the artist is just inconsistent and forgot or if it was a design choice.

No, I think he said he used black dye, but it doesn't really stay on and turn greyish.
I'm pretty sure his hair turned grey in the years he was stuck in the rift and he's just dying it to his old hair colour now.
