He always loved her, here and in their first life, the difference is that he was in denial all the time, he didn’t know anything abt love and didn’t even know his own body and hearth were reacting to her (love and sexual desires were at first for him). He said “Irene, don’t come to the dungeon” bc he thought it was too dangerous for her, fearing that she would be hurt ended up being the reason for her becoming a laughingstock. He was bad at communication but he did send Irene letters for the two of them to go out and talk, those letters were intercepted by that princess always. He didn’t know abt the inner ranks in terms of power between the purificts so he assumed Irene was living well because he saw the Room of that princess in a meeting regarding artifacts and it looked like a good place, he really thought purifiers were all treated equally, innocent and such a foolish mistake make Irene having such a small, old and depressing room. The same day that Irene died, he was actually looking for her, he left his job and tittle and confessed to the supreme mother in the church that he wanted to marry Irene, that he was in love and wanted to travel the world and make a family w her.
I miss when it had more saitama, feels less and less of his story then what it once was.
