The title of the novel is "Storming In". full of rape. The author is a person with mental problems who romanticizes rape. Finally falls in love with ML? what the fuck? I can't stand to read the novel until the end, I only read the last chapter because I want to know how the ending is, all I get is them together? There is no problem with picking up works that depict toxic, horrifying, disgusting themes and enjoying it depending on how the story wants you to enjoy it. If we stick to yaoi itself, on one side there are works like killing stalking which use those themes for horror. That is responsible, non problematic psychological/horror work. Still not something I would advice for a young impressionable person who doesn't have enough life experience to not confuse the character dialogue for moral endorsement by the hand of God. Any reasonable adult, though, reading that story will be made to feel uncomfortable and creeped out in every panel. That's a psychological work that is responsibly using horrific themes to stimulate intellectual turmoil and emotional discomfort without coming off as endorsing it or diffusing the gravity of such crimes and disrespecting the consensus of moral condemnation that exists against them.
And then, there is this story, where you can tell that this author is no different than the whole horde of others in this field who treat rape and sa not as a criminal issue like physical assault or murder is but as an issue of the victim's dignity and social standing. They come with the patriarchal outlook on rape, that is, rape is only wrong because it is disrespectful of a man to touch another man's property and shameful for the woman because she has failed her owner. But as long as the owner is the one forcing her, it's just an expression of his favour for her and even if she doesn't feel comfortable with it, she should forgive him because he was doing it with cough..cough.."good" intentions.
If you aren't careful, the way this story is written could easily lull you into thinking that whole rape subplot is just romantic drama on the level of "does she love him..does she not" instead of "this fucker just brutally murdered the MC's family in front of his eyes for shits and giggles, I wanna see the bastard get buried alive and writhe to death" level anger. The way the author has whitewashed and romanticized that horrible plotline would make you think that this is as unserious as if the guy was dealing with domestic conflict born from irreconcilable differences or was troubled about infidelity, instead of, having had his human rights violated and being subjected to actual torture and sexual abuse. Literally, you could replace the rape and sa plot with the MC being a devoted maiden tormented over her playboy lover and nothing would change. That's how disrespectfully the author has treated a topic as distressing and concerning as rape and sa.
It's evident that the author treats this manifestation of the lowest, most unhinged, most inhumane aspects of humanity as if were any other mundane challenges of life. They have to be one of those "sexual assault is only a problem if your man has a problem with it" scums. The romance genre, yaoi or otherwise, is replete with them. If you find yourself accidentally enjoying these stories, and I grant you that these authors make it a really slippery soap, you need to listen to sound advice from those who have a keener eye than yours, stop, recalibrate and come outside the story to re-think about what you're getting comfortable with, without being influenced by the voice of the story.
