For everyone upset with the princess’s character: This being her character arc is the entire point. It’s not bad character writing by the author, It’s a purposeful commentary on how static fairytale characters are. She has such ugly traits because she was written without any thought of how she would actually act in the real world and not just doing everything she was written to do and say. Ibee specifically comments on the fact that Diego and her are both so shitty probably because of the fact that they weren’t written to have problem solving skills or how to deal with things that didn’t “happen” in the novel, like Ibee being there.

Her mom has issues but I wouldn't say she was abusing her daughter. She got her practically "caged" but that would fall under overprotectiveness rather than abuse.
