Does it involve getting strangled in your dream and then waking up, can't move and still remembering the feeling? Cus, if it does, then I think I've experienced shifting or whatever it is already. Man, shifting sounds magical and a bit scary for me.

I think it’s like going to a alternative universe/world that you want to go in your dream. For example, you’ll shift to like a magical world or smth. Honestly, it’s bullshit (in my opinion) so I think it’s up to the person if they want to believe it or not.
