It's not even the first child treatment in my opinion. MC's mother is just really manipulative and is guilt tripping her into sacrificing herself for her family - earlier by using the accident and now by idek how to call it. Their situation? Now that I think about it, her mother was toxic af even before. Like while multiply asking if MC really want her at school etc
Also the rest of the family can eat shit tbh. They're just go with whatever the mother does for their own comfort. They're not above using MC to get some profil not caring about her situation or feelings

is he a good character then??

i cant say he was good at the beginning (his past self) because it's true that he killed the FL's family. however, he killed them for a reason since he was and is still possessed by 'something'. not only that, AS AN ABANDONED PRINCE, AS A CHILD, he was mistreated badly by his servant compared to his acknowledged siblings. his food, his money and all of that were taken advantage of by them, but he didn't care as he had no reason or goal to pursue. in his past life, he forced the FL to be with her YET HE NEVER HARMED HER, HE IS NOT AN ABUSER, she hate the ML mainly because he killed her family and friends. ML was never loved as a child, he didn't understand how the world work, for that's why he is desperate to be loved by the FL. as we know now that he finally got his sole reason to live, which is to make the FL love him by being a proper human being (like the FL wish before they died in the past life), he learned to control himself from giving in to this 'something'. he has a good character development. now that he has a new start, he confronted his servant for the treatment he got, developed skills in medicine, acknowledging beastmen rights and many more knowledge. unlike in his past life, he was a tyranny machine controlled by the old man (i don't remember his name) since he was taken advantage for his IDGAF attitude. he is willing to cure his illness, the 'something' (hinting? hunting? idk what it is) to fulfill the FL wish so that he can be a proper human being. he is genuinely into FL, he NEVER abused her, he just forced her to be with him by killing her family and friends. in conclusion, all we need to focus on here is his character development. i am certain that he is a good character and well-written in the development part.
