sorry i dont really understand how its harmful isnt it just a term. and lehzin and tappy toons are international companies they cant exactly use japanese terms when describing genres so BL is used as a substitute and umbrella term
yaoi is still yaoi every where, and shounen ai is generally used internationally, while bl is used in japan. it is used in japan because shounen ai sounds weird to them. they use the english version, just like we use the japanese version because saying boys love (which is the direct translation of shounen ai in case you didnt know) sounds a bit weird. its not that deep man.

i haven't read this story yet but i won't mind if there's no smut! i prefer no smut in general so i look for stories with the lone Shounen Ai genre tag to differentiate it from smutty ones. not that i hate yaoi/smut... it's just not my preference :)
