Y'all are not ready to see how sly and clingy Arzen is lmao it's really comical, though the emperor is there to ruin things of course
I would say like 51/52 he starts acting pitiful to get Elliot to stay by his side and pity him(I only read up to 53 since I'm reading the free ones as they come out), but even then since he never experienced love he doesn't realize he's doing it out of that and he rationalises that by saying he only wants to be good to him (the rest is a part of ch52 of the novel where he tries to make sense of his feelings/actions so If you don't want to read that, dont read the rest of this reply)

"first, he had suspected Elliot, but gradually he came to pity his hopelessly weak mind and body, It was also amusing to see Elliot making all sorts of efforts until he let down his suspicion and guard.
Then, gradually, he found him cute, he was comf- orted by him, and he felt jealous when he saw him with other people he was close to. He wanted to kill the people who hurt him,
"...I See."
Arzen nodded his head. He was in the middle of confronting feelings he had never experienced before in his life, all because of Elliot. All those fee lings pointed to one thing,
'I wanted to be good to Elliot Brown.'
If Arzen had ever been in love, he would have felt- that this was similar to love, but having no such experience, he was slightly off the mark and could only reach the conclusion that he just want- ed to be good to him.
He realized that this was not the time to be stand- ing around like this
'In order to be good to him, I must be stuck to him 24 hours a day.'"
Lmao I read the last part of the excerpt just to get a feel of things and that was enough to make me want to read the novel. TYSM!! (≧▽≦)
Can't help but think if he's already this stupidly in love when he doesn't realize it yet, how much worst can he get once he DOES realize it? Just imagining it makes me so giddy already
I did some digging and in the last panel his attire I think symbolises the king as the mediator between heaven and earth, embodying authority, divine legitimacy, humility, and the duty to rule justly, maintaining harmony between heaven, earth and people. Something like a myeonbok? used only for important rituals, ceremonies or ancestral rites.
Now I'm really curious in what way the plot will progress ughh
Honestly the first thing that caught my attention was the crown and my knowledge and resources are also very limited so I just searched up 'traditional korean jade crown' and got that
they are 'representative of the Silla Kingdom (5th-6th century), featuring elaborate gold work adorned with comma-shaped jade beads called gogok, symbolizing fruits on a sacred world tree. These crowns were symbols of royal power and spiritual authority, combining precious materials with natural and cosmic imagery.'
So I searched up clothing with similar symbolism, the closest equivalent I got was the myeonbok that was around the time of Joseon dynasty so I'm still confused about that and I couldn't find anything to clear it up exactly, but the symbolism of the attire matches in both. If you do find something, do share!
Fuck..this is insane
I've read up to ch34, Taewon is truly insane and there's a reason, but really there's nothing else to feel but sorrow
