Aishiteru (FUJITANI Youko)
I found that this manga to be flat emotionally. The mangaka intentions were not clear. Is this manga an outline of a day-to-day life of partners? It seemed so as both partners were living their dreams with no conflicts, which was a nice rendition of a peaceful life. Yet it feels emotionless.
Hanayome Wa Oku-san
Find the jinx .. Sleep with him and hopefully. you will be granted good future and amazing luck. Although I applaud the mangaka's creativity, I find the jinxed plot weak. It was utilized once in the beginning of the first chapter. We didn't know if our protagonist was granted a prosper future. Did his father's business recover? We don't know.
Interestingly, the story concluded in 2 short chapters which I'm thankful for. The mangaka didn't stretch the storyline unnecessarily. It was perfectly concise .
Cutey Honey
Cutie Honey is not a typical manga. Nagai Go's style is flamboyant and over the top which is different from the subtle Tezuka. It is interesting, considering that this manga was produced in the 70s to see a strong female lead, but that problem is how Nagai Go parades Honey as playboy playmate. All the characters seemed sexually frustrated. Not something that I would enjoy, but looking back 50 years ago, I bet Honey was an interesting genre for Japan .
A Night of a Thousand Dreams
The journey of Sahara and Shahrayar is intellectually adventurous, where laughter and sadness engulfed their situation throughout their journey. I enjoyed Sahara stories; they were a good and diverse collection, but I wished for more in the last two chapters. The final third of their story was not in the same bar as the first and second thirds. The conclusion of their story was expected but I think the mangaka failed to be creative with it.
Season (ASOU Mitsuaki)
Seasons change and with every drop of rain, dirt can be washed away and so as good gestures. We, humans, change and are able to create diverse environments that cater to our desires and goals. However, good deeds will never fade away. This manga is beautifully narrated and portrayed emotions greatly. Howvere, there were few issues in the storyline. Why did Suieji steal? How come everything was forgotten? Wasn't he responsible for the family despair situation? Azuma was allowed to go to Tokyo, then was stabbed and neither his mother or his stepfather cared to travel to check on him? Were they satisfied with a phone call? Suieji side-kick/informer was introduced as a sinister character, but didn't contribute to the storyline at all.
Sorekara, Kimi wo Kangaeru
Bitter and sweet moments translated to a collection of one-shots. Each of which has the potential to be longer.
Kuzu
Surprisingly addictive style of storytelling. The first story about avoiding being a trash is hurtful but is a sad turn of events of anybody who is willing to throw his/her life to pursue a thrilling dream. A realistic portrayal of consequences devoid of Yaoi colourful world. The story of a caste heaven couple is annoying as the game in this school is sickening; Why can't we have one decent couple who exercise their love without bullying their respective partners?
Koi ga Bokura wo Yurusu Hani
A crazy arrangement between 2 couples where the ladies arrange for their partners to hook up. Not only do they arrange for the steamy scene but also encourage both men to sleep with each other. The older lady is a clever woman who understands that she is not in a position to compete with another man for the heart of the man she cares about: she knows that will lose. However, you don't need to encourage them to meet, you can set up barriers easily, but it seems that was her downfall. She, just like the other woman, downplayed the consequence of that steamy night. Both men crossed a barrier that was enacted by them and there is no turning back. No matter what, no man or woman can or be willing to share his/her partner heart with anybody.
